Theft of host

I sell antiques as well as run my house as an Airbnb. Most of them are small & not of much value, but not in this case. To protect identities, I’m changing details. I had one valuable “cook” book listed & had it displayed downstairs in my private living space. This is a small town & I forget to lock up when I get groceries. This book disappeared about the time of the person’s stay and after some sleuthing, I found out this person is a “chef.” I have no security cameras.
I know there’s nothing I can really do or prove. I learned the hard way to lock up everything. Maybe by telling my story, it will protect one of you. It’s a sad one, but sa la vie.
