Thermostat War in Wisconsin

I'm looking for local responses, or of weather similar to Milwaukee. What do you set your thermostats to in both the summer and winter? Do you lock a temperature in or allow renters to adjust temperature?

I've been in HVAC for 20 years, so I understand everyone's frustration with thermostats and rentals. Most air conditioning systems are designed to work to 20 degrees below ambient air. So, if its 100F out, asking the air conditioner to get it to 65F inside the home is unrealistic, and likely to freeze up the compressor.

The other side is that 75F with high humidity is downright awful to be in. The air conditioner removes humidity when running (that's why there's a drip tube to a floor drain or outside.)

So, I'd like to hear thoughts. Thanks!

@Kara137 you're right, most people have absolutely NO idea how air con works!!! ie leave windows open and still run system - NOPE, not gonna work. I'm hot, so I'll turn it down to 55 and that will cool it quicker - No, that's not what happens...

My guests have their own thermostat and they think they control it. And they do to an extent, but I have an override that I can adjust from off-site. It's a tricky balance.
