What is the truth behind whether or not a review will show? Do both parties have to write review for them to show up? If the guest doesn't write a review and the host does will it still show? And vice versa? It should be fair that either both show or both don't not one does and one doesn't.
@Amy180 Reviews will post whether both host and guest review or not. The review posts 14 days after check out or when both have posted reviews which ever comes first. Super basic question, @Amy180. If you are new to this platform, please take time to learn more. Great information both here in the community center and in the Help Center. Take advantage as it will save you both frustration and even money down the line. Good Luck!!
I have been a host for about 3 years with 50+ reviews and the reason I ask is that I have had experiences that contradict what you claim. I had a guest that was destructive to my property and I felt other potential hosts should be warned and yet my (very politely written) review never showed on their profile. Currently my most recent guest is going to write a bad review because they went to the mountains ill prepared for driving in the snow and their car got stuck in my driveway and so it is "my fault."then they were unable to get the jacuzzi to heat up and despite my talking them through how to reset the breaker they couldn't get it working and when I offered to have the spa guy show up to reset. Breaker for them they said he could only come at 4pm which wasn't an option for him.i gave them a credit on their stay for the inconvenience of the jacuzzi "not working"but I am sure they are going to blame me for their car getting stuck and even "damaged" they claim yet I have on video (external on my driveway" claiming that the damage happened the. Night o before while their car was stuck somewhere else!! Anyway I will post my review and rebuttal to heirs including a video post of their lies if need be
@Amy180 your revew will be public when: 1) your guest write a review or 2) after 2 weeks.
It will not be public if his stay was cancelled.
At least it should be that way
@Amy180 My bad Amy. Your question was so basic I didn't realize that you were such an experienced host. I am now baffled by your response in which you state: "Anyway I will post my review and rebuttal to heirs including a video post of their lies if need be". I thought you stated you posted your review and it was not on their profile. I did not see a negative review on your profile for the Arrowhead listing, so it seems that their review was not posted either. So weird...
@Linda108 , if you read carefully what @Amy180 said, you'll realize that she first talked about a guest/ review in the past, then about her present experience.
@Amy180 , I have seen it numerous times that guests and hosts alike are able to get reviews they don't like or agree with taken down by Airbnb. Since it is not in Airbnb's interest that a potential guest has a very bad review and thus might have a difficult time getting another Airbnb rental secured, I easily believe Airbnb took that review down once the guest complained about it.
Those reviews are getting more artificial and unreliable by the minute: hosts are chasing the perfect 5 star rating at all times and are offended when a guest gives them less. quite a few hosts also post nice reviews for guests while at the same time, they complain here about that very same guest.
And then you have hosts that go on and on in their public response to a review they received, as if they were in a court room and had to prove they were right! That NEVER ever looks good to the next person reading it! Please keep that in mind when tempted to write a lengthy response to the anticipated negative review from your current guest.
@Linda108 You are right actually, the review that didn't show on the guests profile was a previous guest from months ago, it is why I asked the question because I had a guest this past weekend that I think will post a bad review because they were ill prepared for the weather (despite my warnings) and had their car stuck and damaged and of course blamed me. So I was thinking that if I don't post a review of them that their review won't show on my profile because of my past t experience. But it sounds as though reviews should post regardless. So I have written my review and have been polite with more detailed comments in the private section. Thanks everyone for yourr insight!!
@Amy180 Thanks for clarifying. From what I have seen in the many discussion threads about both host and guest reviews, negative reviews will not be taken down just because of a complaint. However if the complaint meets the criteria as described in the
Content Policy (https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/546/what-is-airbnb-s-content-policy) it can be taken down. Hope this all works out for you, Amy
