I am a Canadian and live in Canada. I have a USD denominated Credit card that I use to make direct purchases in USD without any conversion. It is very useful as I don't have to deal or worry about daily currency fluctuations. I bought my USD a long time ago at much more favorable rates than now.
Unfortunately, Airbnb still converts USD to CAD and charges a 3% commission on top of that. I called Airbnb to complain and they said the currency is based on the address on my card. I do have a U.S. address ont eh card though it is a Canadian bank one. No one at Aribnb seems to know the solution of how to get a USD credit card billed directly in USD without conversion.
They were nice and gave me a credit ,but this will affect all my future reservations as I would be paying more due to this conversion policy that I cannot get around. They said they wil put this in a special investigation case. I complained last year and they said the same thing but nothing's changed.
Does anyone know how to get a credit card charged without foreign exchange rate conversion on the Airbnb site. ? I changed my account settings to billing country US and USD but to no avail. I thought there is a place in their site to check off the currency to be charged?
No other U.S. company does that. I can always use my credit card to be billed directly in USD.
