What happens when the people that show up are not the ones that booked.

I have had that problem also and have had to adjust my house rules and my guest requirements to mention that guests who do not have a profile cannot be booked.  Twice I had this happen with African Americans being booked by a white person and I suspected they may have thought that I would discriminate against them.  I wanted to make it clear that everyone would be accepted, regardless of race or any other protected status.  As long as they are booked and there is a profile.  Exception is if a person doesn't have a credit card or cellphone with the app.  In this case I would require a picture and a brief discription with a photo ID.

@Rick317  Third party bookings are against Airbnb's terms of service. The person who books has to be one of the people who stay. You can turn people away at the door if they are not the person who booked. Airbnb will not cover you if someone who causes problems stays under someone else's account.

@Sarah977 You are right, Airbnb's insurance only covers the person who has a profile and who booked.

@Rick317

Call Airbnb immediately to report a 3rd party booking and don't let those strangers in your home. Airbnb will not help or assist or compensate you in any way if those people cause problems for you because they are not the account holder and you are the one that let strangers stay in your home.

Unless there was a really good reason, I'd never allow a 3rd party booking and I'd never let complete strangers who were involved in a booking under false pretenses come in my home. It's hard enough even with guests that are verified and are the one's we communicate directly with prior to check in.

@Rick317  The other hosts who have posted are all correct and their advise is good, however just as a "belt and braces" get out of jail free card I also put in my house rules that without exception we do not accept third party bookings and the guest who books must be a member of the family or group that arrives. I know that sounds obvious but it prevents any confusion.
