We are having the exact problem. We received a request from a guest who didn’t have government identification and provided very little information. I sent him a message asking him to acknowledge and agreed to the house rules. We waited and messaged again. No response. Long story shortened...I called Airbnb. They rep was so helpful and agreed we had gone beyond trying to get information and Airbnb canceled the reservation without penalty. The rep said something interesting; I thanked him and he said, “ only this one time.” I immediately updated our requirements to book to included verified government identification. Took out the requirement for other host reviews (gotta give newcomers the chance). Breathed a sigh of relief and almost immediately received a request to book which did not meet our minimum requirements ad viola, that was our last booking, request or inquiry.
Two things, 1 - I had read of so many host experiences with Airbnb which were shockingly negative so I was pleasantly surprised by my very first issue being resolved so easily. And 2 - AirBnB isn’t host friendly. Chat it out with us, don’t punish us. I changed my requirements and changed my listing to be more welcome to new users. Trying to work here, what’s up?
