beware of hosts changing check-in dates

I was booking a reservation in New York City and found a great listing which was perfect for my family’s needs. I contacted the host and he did something that was unusual but hard to flag at the time for me. He declined my dates at first but then resent a new check-in date 4 days before my arrival date (the day I booked) and told me he wanted to block off the week for me with no change in price. He then stopped responding once the booking was made as the host gets paid within 24 hrs of check-in. Other flags were that the listing had no reviews or other reservations on its calendar. BNB was very accomodating and gave me a full refund, but it opened my eyes on how many scams exist here. DO NOT accept an earlier check-in date even if it is the same price or lower.
