cancelling guests to accept a long-term reservation

I have a gentleman visiting my Airbnb apartment today; he is looking to rent for 9 months while he teaches at a local college. If I accept him, which I hope works out, I will have to cancel 11 nights that are booked in May (starting May 17 & today is April 17...). Questions: How do I handle this???? (He wants to rent May 1 - March 1, 2020). Also, am I supposed to clean for him weekly? I don't know if I have this in the house rules. Any advice is welcome! -Mel

Hi @Melissa717  I hope you are well!

It would be unfair for you to cancel bookings you have already accepted in favour of a longer-term booking.

If you cancel them then you'll have the dates blocked in your calendar so your longer term potential guest wouldn't be able to book them anyway- airbnb put this system in place to prevent this very issue. (as well as losing your Superhost status, and facing financial penalty)

Could your long term guest not book elsewhere whilst you honour your current reservations and then make his booking to start at the next available point in your calendar?

Best wishes

Paul.
