I really want to delete my airbnb account, but the delet button is nowhere to be found. Deactivation is not good enough. I want to have my account deleted along with all my personal information.
hello @Edward213 ,
Only Airbnb can delete your account, as stated here:
https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/240/how-do-i-deactivate-or-delete-my-account
Hope this helps,
Emiel
Thanks, but I still don't know how to have it deleted. There is no clear link for contact. Thank you for answering, but a more useful answer would been to provide a link to direct access to contact. I have sent messages, but none have been answered. I feel AirBNB has deliberately made it difficult to reclaim my personal information and my desire to removed from Airbnb services. Deactivation is not what I want.
Click the link below for all the ways to contact airbnb, good luck
I have the same desire you do: to delete, not just deactivate, my account and info. Their website says you have to contact them to delete. I did that and they responded by emailing me instructions to deactivate. I followed up with an email, and they responded I can only deactivate. I'm now sending them a screen shot from their own website, stating that deletion is an option. Have you gotten any farther with your attempts? If they continue to refuse, I'd like to report them to some regulatory oversight agency but I don't know who that is. Do you know? FTC?
I'm having same issue. WTF ? AIR BNB. You send us around in circles. I got through on chat only to get told sorry I cant do that "DAVE"
Delete my account please and soon.
The big problem is, @Gordon0, that as with just about every other important issue that negatively impacts their "community", not only are Airbnb not listening, but they sure as hell aren't telling either.

There's a huge difference between deactivating and deleting your account.
Deactivating means that your account will just be hidden, and your data will still be retained by Airbnb, for whatever purposes.
Deleting your account completely requires you to either call Airbnb, or send an email to the company's data protection dept at dpo@airbnb.com.
Under Article 17 of GDPR, the Right of Erasure (more commonly known as the right to be forgotten), hosts can - and should - require that Airbnb permanently deletes your personal data. You also have the right to ask for details of any third party entities with whom your data has been shared (for ID verification purposes, for example), exactly what data, if any, will be retained by Airbnb, and on what grounds that data won't be deleted. Airbnb is obligated to respond to any such requests within 28 days.
All who get paid through Airbnb Ireland UC, Airbnb Payments UK Ltd, Airbnb Global Services Ltd/Airbnb GSL (applies to Japan, but an Irish registered company), Airbnb Payments Australia Ltd, or Airbnb Payments Luxembourg SA (for payments on or after March 25, 2019) are considered data subjects under GDPR - General Data Protection Register. (Hosts in China, India and the US should check their relevant data protection laws, and if/when GDPR applies to their bookings, as it does in certain instances)
Hi Susan,
I have sent multiple emails to dpo@airbnb.com requesting that my account be deleted.
Every time I get a different answer, sure would be happy to comply( with zero follow-up)
please make request through you Air bnb account( which is technically impossible), or the last response
Andre J, Jun 22, 00:52 PDT:
anyone succeded yet?
I have also made multiple requests to have my account deleted and not deactivated, over the past two months.
I have attached a copy of their privacy policy which clearly states that upon a personal request through a email adress provided by them that an account can be deleted.
Yes, all to no avail! I am including their last response, of which I have 6) which states that users of AirBNB residing in the USA are excluded from having their accounts deleted!!
I understand that they have no intention of deleting my account regardless of how many requests I make.
I am tired of the run a round.
I believe it is time to go public and am researching what investigative journalistic at the N.Y. Times or Washington Post would be interested in this story. Our Rights are, per their Privacy Policy, being abused. This is definetely a story! I am sick of tired of having my privacy invated, abused, and used, by the AirBNB.
Are you listening Air BNB?!?!
LETTER CONTAINS MISIMFORMATION FOR I HAVE NOT DEACTIVATED MY ACCOUNT FOR THE SIMPLE REASON I WANT IT DELETED.

Dear Cyndi,
Thank you for your email.
As outlined in our previous communication, we are not able to accommodate the permanent deletion of all your personal information that is held by Airbnb. Despite the deactivation of your account, we will continue to require your personal information for legitimate business purposes as outlined in our Privacy Policy: https://www.airbnb.com/terms/privacy_policy.
GDPR generally does not apply to customers of Airbnb, Inc. By customers of Airbnb, Inc we mean users residing in the USA.
Thank you for your understanding.
Regards,
Andre
Same issue. Multiple people are having this. It needs to be looked into because people are getting their accounts blocked from air bnb then there info kept. What is that all about. Are they selling the info too? I wouldn’t be surprised. If they get hacked and your info is compromised I imagine there can be a suit against them. Something needs to be done .
Hi @Cyndi37
I wrote above...
" Hosts in China, India and the US should check their relevant data protection laws, and if/when GDPR applies to their bookings, as it does in certain instances"
My apologies - in retrospect, I should have made that sentence clearer. While some GDPR clauses can affect bookings of US users in certain scenarios (guests booking with US hosts from EU countries etc), it definitely wouldn't apply to the deletion of US accounts, as that no part of that interaction has anything to do with users from regions to which GDPR is applicable - that particular scenario would be entirely between a US host and a US company (Airbnb Inc)
I see you're in Santa Barbara, @Cyndi37 . I'm not sure what the exact situation is there right at this moment, but I do know that the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) of 2018 was passed on 28 June 2018. The law, which will take effect on 1 January 2020, introduces new privacy rights for consumers and will force companies that conduct business in the State of California to implement structural changes to their privacy programs.
The new rights given to California consumers are similar to the rights provided in the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The CCPA also subjects non-compliant businesses to expensive fines, class-action lawsuits, and injunctions.
If you have a business email, you can download the Comparison Guide on the Privacy Rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) vs. the EU's General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) here..

Best of luck to you!

Which translates to since you( user) live in the USA, We,(AirBnB )are not required to delete your account
upon your request, in spite of our Privacy Policy stating the .contrary.
What about my right to privacy? My right to my personal information?
