guest broke into private areas of home

My last guests broke into the private areas of my home.

My bedroom, bathroom, and office were all entered. This put confidential client documents at risk.

Someone slept in my bedroom! These doors are ALWAYS locked. The creepy part? They relocked them before they left. I'm steamed to say the least! Can I sue them?

I'm just here for support. I'm sorry  for you, that would make me feel VERY violated. So I certainly understand your anger. I can't see how you could sue unless you had it on camera or someone did forensics. Make sure you still have evreything, and nothing is missing. I would notify airbnb because that is way over the line. And I'm a guy that can swallow a lot!

I would contact BnB resolution straight away.  I presume you must have evidence to show your room was slept in and the locked rooms entered.

One part I was slightly confused about how could they relock the locked doors - apart from with a key?

Hopefully BnB will ban them from the system. Pending this (and presuming you can prove they broke in/used your rooms) you can mention this in your guest review.

Hi Helen, the door knobs have privacy locks, they lock by pushing in and twisting.

How did they get into the rooms?

Hi Dawn, they must have found something thin enough and long enough to spring the knob lock. These are simply push and turn locks, I never expected a guest to challenge them.

@Dawn33, @Sue99, some locks are not hard to pick for someone with experience at this...

This is supercreepy, you have my sympathy but no useful advice. Photos, police report maybe?

This is extremely scary.

I just had this issue last night. I am beyond upset and feel very violated. I keep my things in very particular order and am very keen on noticing when they are out of place. The differences were subtle but I picked up on them quickly. They also relocked my door when leaving. Did you ever resolve this issue? I'd love to know the outcome.

I had guests break into my personal bedroom and use it without my permission. I am beyond upset and feel very violated. I keep my things in very particular order and am very keen on noticing when they are out of place. The differences were subtle but I picked up on them quickly. The biggest being that a pillow from my bedroom was in the room used for guests. They also relocked my door when leaving. Is there anything that can be done about this? Aside from this, it was very clear a party was thrown in my home and as much as they tried to clean up, there was still evidence such as food on the group, busted and leaking bottles in the freezer, beer bottles filing the trash, and a very dirty toilet.
