I have a guest that is supposedly checking out tomorrow. Turns out he's letting a strange guy (to me) stay in his room tonight!
Place stinks of beer (both drunk as skunks) and smoke. bathroom is a disaster.
He planned on leaving this guy here overnight to 'sober up' and I have no idea who he is.
I have another guest checking in tomorrow morning!
I'm extremely upset over this as they woke me up in the dead of the night.
Left my front door wide open when they came in and my place now smells like a drunken brawl bar.
I want to just pack the guys stuff and tell him to leave when he comes back.
He offered me $100 to let the other guy stay here in his place, but I am not comfortable with that as I have no recourse if this other guy does something in my place.

@Linda108 has summed the situation up well. And you're not covered by Airbnb in case anything happens if the guest isn't on the booking and past booking time.
Next time you can also tell the guest you have to adapt the booking (do this in their presence). Take your device and change the booking for the night to include the 2nd person and adapt the price accordingly. Have the guest accept before they leave. But no, under no circumstances would I let another stay like that past check-in.
To scare off such mis-use add to your House Rules: Only booked and registered guests on the property Non-compliance will lead to cancellation of booking without refund.
It's usually difficult for new hosts to know where to draw the line in the sand. Think of yourself as a small business, and maybe this will help yourself to stand up stronger for yourself. Instead of being a helpless observer of such terrible behaviour, you'll probably find yourself being able to tell somebody like this "This is not the way this business works. May I remind you of the House Rules you agreed to upon booking as well as the fact that you are endagering my home. I can understand that you might feel more at eas stayinh at an accommodation in which you have less responsibility and employees to take care of everything. Why don't we call Airbnb now and see what alternatives they have for you.
Be prepared with the phone no. on speed dial. Tell them you are uncomfortable with his endangering your home like that.
It's a crass method, but there\s no clearer way to say that you're serious. Do it in a firm but still civil way, unbudgable to the core.
Guys like this %*(@#$ are like leeches, with an instinct for anybody who would let themselves be run over. I would have contacted (messaged) him the minute I noticed the door wide open. Anybody treating my homee record, Airbnb's responsobility is technically over past your official check out time.
Sadly this is the most difficult part of hosting. As another host pointed out, Airbnb is a booking service and has absolutely no authority once a guest refuses to leave or breaks a rule and the guest is still in your home. Bottom line is you just got to make house rules and STICK TO THEM. Anything you can think of going wrong, write it in your house rules and the consequence. I've had a few awful go-rounds simply due to the nature of where I am....so I can tell you from experience if you want someone to get out of your house, just get them out--don't wait on it. Airbnb is a booking service, they aren't for emergency situations and their policies are not designed to protect us hosts, they are designed to maximize profit (as they are a corporation). The longer a bad guest stays, the more difficult the situation is. Drunk or sober, if they are breaking a rule or making you feel uncomfortable, they have to go. Refund, no refund...bad review or good review, just dont' think about it, get them out of your house before anything REALLY awful happens.
Don't get me wrong, usually nothing bad ever EVER happens..it's one in a million, but the more you host, the more chance you will get a bad apple. I've had two crazy experiences out of close to 150 guests, so that's not so bad, but seriously....it takes me a second to shake it off and get back to being positive about hosting.
Your concerns and advice has been great and I thank you for it.
I don't know what @Chad73 is doing on here but his posting on this was completely inappropriate.
I'm still with airbnb as I've had some wonderful guests that have made this a fabulous experience but there' always someone thst thinks they can take advantage.
I'm very diligent about sticking with my rules, just as I am with sticking to someone else's rules 😊
