guest letting a complete stranger stay in the room while he is out for the night

I have a guest that is supposedly checking out tomorrow. Turns out he's letting a strange guy (to me) stay in his room tonight!

Place stinks of beer (both drunk as skunks) and smoke. bathroom is a disaster.

He planned on leaving this guy here overnight to 'sober up' and I have no idea who he is.

I have another guest checking in tomorrow morning!

I'm extremely upset over this as they woke me up in the dead of the night.

Left my front door wide open when they came in and my place now smells like a drunken brawl bar.

I want to just pack the guys stuff and tell him to leave when he comes back.

He offered me $100 to let the other guy stay here in his place, but I am not comfortable with that as I have no recourse if this other guy does something in my place.

Suggestions?

@Linda108 has summed the situation up well. And you're not covered by Airbnb in case anything happens if the guest isn't on the booking and past booking time.

Next time you can also tell the guest you have to adapt  the booking (do this in their presence). Take your device and change the booking for the night to include the 2nd person and adapt the price accordingly. Have the guest accept before they leave. But no, under  no circumstances would I let another stay like that past check-in.

To scare off such mis-use add to your House Rules: Only booked and registered guests on the property Non-compliance will lead to cancellation of booking without refund.

It's usually difficult for new hosts to know where to draw the line in the sand. Think of yourself as a small business, and maybe this will help yourself to stand up stronger for yourself. Instead of being a helpless observer of such terrible behaviour, you'll probably find yourself being able to tell somebody like this "This is not the way this business works. May I remind you of the House Rules you agreed to upon booking as well as the fact that you are endagering my home. I can understand that you might feel more at eas stayinh at an accommodation in which you have less responsibility and employees to take care of everything. Why don't we call Airbnb now and see what alternatives they have for you.

Be prepared with the phone no. on speed dial. Tell them you are uncomfortable with his endangering your home like that.

It's a crass method, but there\s no clearer way to say that you're serious. Do it in a firm but still civil way, unbudgable to the core.

Guys like this %*(@#$ are like leeches, with an instinct for anybody who would let themselves be run over. I would have contacted (messaged) him the minute I noticed the door wide open. Anybody treating my homee record, Airbnb's responsobility is technically over past your official check out time.

@Angela393  So sorry that no one responded to your post yesterday.  What an awful situation to be in!  You could have brought in the police because the unregistered person was tresspassing.  I don't know what you decided to do but I hope it all worked out  for the best.

Of course I hope you give a thumbs down review for the booking guest.  When you have a moment to reflect, is there anything you can do to prevent this from happening in the future?

I called the police and they evicted both of them as it was a clear violation of policies.

I've never had a problem.before and the guest was fine til this happened, he was so drunk he had no idea what he had done in leaving a stranger in his accommodations.

The police were sorting it out last night and I'm leaving it at that.

I'm giving a terrible review with details of what happened.

Good that you are safe an all is being sorted out, @Angela393.  How are you feeling about hosting?  Are you okay?

I am still feeling ok about hosting.

I've never had a guest do that, it's always been s pleasant experience.

I just don't know how to put a review about a guest.

Was on hold for 58 minutes with Airbnb and had to come to work so I emailed them a detailed message.

It took me over 7 hours to clean up the mess thst the guest and his ' friend" made puking everywhere

I will likely offend, but I don't get why you would let anybody that is a complete stranger stay in your house/apartment while you were there, heck, even while not there. I know that is the whole purpose of Airbnb, but it baffles me.

And did you see the part of the post where I state this is not allowed?

I stay at my place, rules are posted and gone over with the registered guest upon arrival but this idiot thought I wouldn't hear him leave a drunk, sick co-worker that wasn't registered, here with me.

I stay at my place so that this doesn't happen.

From your reply to my post, it seems as though you shouldn't participate in Airbnb.

@Chad73  I  can see that you are not a host or a guest (so far) on this site, so I am not sure why you are posting on this forum.  Are you looking for something?  @Angela393  is a participant in this shared economy and seeking to deal with some of the issues that come up.  Angela, I hope you will continue to enjoy the benefits of this business, but of course safety for you and your space paramount.

@Angela393 sorry to hear about what happened. This is one of the reasons why I have these in my house rules:

• No unannounced extra person, visitor, or guest other than you is authorized in the unit at any time. Failure to comply with this agreement will cost our agreement without refund.

• You may not be present in my house in an intoxicated state. Persons who are intoxicated in my house may be asked to leave my house and find another place to stay.

Thank you Farah, I will add this into my house rules with similar wording.

It just shocked me that someone would leave someone in such a state of illness to wake up in a strange place.

What a mess @Angela393! Your nerves must have been shot to hell with all this. And your reward is cleaning up your drunk guests' mess. Some days being a good host is the worst! My sympathies, totally, and glad you are safe and that you took the precautions you did to protect yourself and your property. If I could send you an emoji of a big balloon bouquet, I would!

Thank you @Kate157

I had to let the place air out and disinfect the entire place.

Once I saw the amount of actual damage I reported it to Airbnb by email, hopefully he won't do this to anyone else.

Let's just say my review of him wasn't favorable

Also, please give the guy a thumbs down. That way he at least won't  be able to instant book.

I did give the thumbs down for him.
