"AVERY BLISS " COTTAGE RENTAL

Admin please delete if not allowed. I am sharing this experience as i do not want someone else to make the same mistake by renting this persons cottage "AVERY BLISS" ! It was unbelievable and after so much time of trying to work with this lady she refuses to communicate with me or give me any answers!
 
Here it goes!
 
Please Keep in mind there were 4 kids staying at this cottage 2 of which were under 2 years old.
 
It has been over a week since we arrived at this cottage. When we arrived, everyone was baffled at the state the cottage was in upon arrival. The owner told us they were there Friday morning making sure everything was ready for us and even included a bottle of wine on the table for our arrival. Unfortunately the arrival was far from pleasant. I have taken multiple pictures and videos of the state the cottage was in upon arrival. All photos and videos are time stamped. Below is a description of some of the sanitary issues..
-the living room had food, hair and other dirt particles all over the floor.
-the amount of spider webs everywhere are indication the cottage has not been cleaned
-the bedrooms inside the cottage had dust balls that have clearly been there for a very very long time, there were dirty socks, ripped bags, make up remover packages all underneath the bed. The bed had dirt, debris and bugs all inside the beds. The blankets left to use were dirty and full of stains. There were dried up nasal mucus all over the side of one of the mattresses.
-the kitchen was swept upon our arrival and we had filled a full dust pan of dirt.
-the bathroom tub was filthy. The curtains for the tub were full of grime.
-the bunkies: there was no electricity in the bunkies. The bunkies were not usable. The floor was full of dirt and debris. The beds were both full of dirt and debris even a cigarette butt inside in the bed.
 
These are just some of the sanitary issues of the cottage.
 
Some other important issues were, I asked if the cottage was child friendly as we had 4 children 4 years old and under with us. They said yes of course! The cottage is absolutely not kid friendly. The cottage is on a facing downward hill ending at the water. The back patio and deck were the only flat surfaces on your property outdoors. The patio had no railings, had a wheel barrel full of dirt, water and debris for who knows how long. Broken planter, broken iron table and planks of wood. The deck had no railings. The stairs outside had no railings either. The pictures they posted of the furniture on the deck was not provided.They only provided the furniture shell. No table. And only told us that the cushions for the shell were in the shed after we had asked them. they only told us the hot tub had not been serviced and will not be in use after the fact of our booking. We asked them to provide more pictures to us after we had booked and sent them the money and they never replied, twice.
 
They asked for the full amount 2 weeks prior. I sent the full amount of $900 as they requested and on time. I sent the $250 security deposit one week before arrival as requested and on time. We drove over 3 hours to arrive at the cottage only to be mortified at what we encountered. We called them twice Friday night at approximately midnight. They never answered. They are renting the property, it is their responsibility to be available at any time to your renters. I specifically sat up holding my sleeping son until 4am because I did not want to place my son in the unsanitary bed that was provided. We did not even unpack our stuff except for food or it would go bad. You returned our call the next morning. We stated the issues with the cleanliness and safety of their cottage. They made every excuse in the book of past renters, that is the past and we are not discussing the past we are discussing our current rental with them . Owners fiance came to the cottage on saturday morning to discuss these issues with us. We showed him everything. Again his response was we never had this issue before, and again that is irrelevant because it is happening now. He asked us what he can do to get us to stay and we said absolutely nothing as we were packed and ready to leave since the night before when we arrived to the state the cottage was in. They stated they will have to discuss this issue with their cleaning crew, again this is not our problem. They rent the cottage it is your responsibility to make sure your cottage is clean and ready for renters. Our weekend was completely ruined but the worst part was our childrens weekend together was ruined.
 
We asked them for our money back over the phone and they said we will come to an agreement for a refund and you had to calculate their expenses. We asked what expenses? They replied with, well we spent the night ( again we called twice with no answer on Friday night ), Her husband took the day off to come up Saturday to discuss our concerns and now they are unable to rent it for the remainder of the weekend and that you had to find accommodations for the weekend for yourself since they couldn't stay at the cottage. First and foremost, we called twice to no answer, Her husband took the day off out of his own free will. We never asked either of them to attend, we asked for our money back. They posted the cottage for rent, their intent was not to stay at the cottage so your accommodation is not our issue. And as for the expense of not being able to rent the cottage for the rest of the weekend is also not our issue as this is the state they left their cottage for renters and told us it was " spic and span ". The cottage was and is the opposite of spic and span. The cottage was not ready to be rented out to anyone in the state it was in when we arrived. Children or no children. They offered a day and a half plus deposit due to " their expenses". Their expenses are irrelevant to us as they own the cottage and rent it out. This is their responsibility as the owner. Everytime we ask for our refund and security deposit they only reply with this week or after work with no response as to amount. They NEVER GAVE US OUR DEPOSIT BACK EITHER!!!
 
We have waited over a week for our security deposit and refund. We have been extremely patient with them to return our money plus deposit. There is no negotiation of amount as what they posted in the ad, the pictures and responses were completely false. They falsy advertised what the renters would be walking in too. So we asked one last time for our full refunded amount plus security deposit sent to us immediately. Unfortunatley she didnt care enough to even respond, so with proof with photos and videos and text messages and emails back and forth we have no choice but to take this a step further..
 
We are left with no money back no cottage weekend as we left Saturday morning and no answers!

can you post Airbnb link to this cottage?

Did you pay through the Airbnb system or you paid directly to their bank account or PayPal?

 

If you booked and paid through Airbnb system, arrived and left early then you should have contact Airbnb immediately, tell them you want to cancel and you want to be refunded because the cottage is filthy.

If you messaged your host through Airbnb then you have a proof and you can contact Airbnb now.

 

Security deposit is not actually taken from your account. It is just a permission to Airbnb to charge your card in case you did some damage and your host filed a damage claim.
