report dishonest hosts?

why can't we warn potential renters about dishonest hosts? I just got totally screwed by a host, and there is nowhere but this community page to let others know to stay away from them. this will probably be the last time

i use Airbnb. there needs to be more accountability.

Is there a reason you cannot review the host, @Mark461? Was it a cancellation?

You can contact Airbnb and report how you got "screwed over". Was it a monetary scewing? A screwing by misrepresenting a listing? A bait and switch screwing? Or a cancelled at the last minute screwing? In any event, only Airbnb can help you. This forum is just a group of hosts advising each other.

@Mark461  As hosts, we do not want to support any behavior of a host that is not up to standard.  Apparently you are not aware of the two ways in which this platform addresses traveler dissatisfaction with a host.  Somehow you were able to find this forum, but the other ways might be more effective.  First, if there is real dishonesty going on, you can flag the profile (flag under the profile name) and Air BNB will review.  Second, all hosts like guests are subject to the review process.  Hopefully, you used that process as an opportunity to express your dissatisfaction.

I recently had a horrible experiance aswell.

We booked for accommodation.

and got confirmation and when we get to the apartment no one was there , gates where locked and you could see that the place has been deserted for years . we then tried calling the host no responds till today we were left stranded outside and yet we drove 6 hours and had place to go. I want to know what is the procedure to report this as it will happen to someoneelse and how do we get refunded.

How awful, @Lucy117. Just go into your Trips and find the itinerary for this booking. At the bottom you should find a Help number. If it is not appearing there, look here: Contact Airbnb

@Lucy117  So awful for you!  My response above your posting describes one way to flag the profile.  Also, you need to contact Air BNB directly to get relocated to another place or refund if you prefer.  Here is a link to the community guide for contacting Air BNB with country phone numbers.

Let us know what happens!

Linda, it is not Adam that is at fault.

This platform totally sucks if you are customer screwed by a host.

Good luck trying to get help from Airbnb or any support response whatsoever.  You can spent hours just trying to find where the contact support form is located.

I second that. They don't do the customer any favours.  They support dishonest hosts instead.

Hi @Mark461,

There are many ways you can communicate this both to the company and also to other prospective guests.

I would give a "thumbs down" in the review, and also provide feedback directly to Airbnb (which is kept private from the host) in the review.  After you leave the main part of the review, you are prompted if you would like to tell Airbnb anyhting about the host that will be kept private.  Include here misleading information asl well as any untoward behavior, etc.

Last, you can also make it clear in your review so other guests will be informed.

Hi How did you report your dishonest host to Airbnb?  Our host blatantly lied about having no stangers at the house or pool as I specifically checked with her before booking but when we arrived she had booked strangers into the downstairs part of the house and they could use the garden, pool etc and meant we couldn't really use the BBQ or access the pool as easily as we should have.  When I sent her the email showing her confirmation she was jsut sarcastic. Then she was able to write a negative review of us about thinking the whole house was ours   Many thanks  VM

Clearly your host meant there would be no strangers in the actual unit you booked. The other apartment appears to be a completely separate unit.

I recently learned my lesson, after having such decent experiences with Airbnb for over the past 5 years traveling from San Francisco, Miami, New York, New Orleans, etc. with family and friends. ALWAYS be proactive and honest when addressing issues with Airbnb & hosts. These people are not your FRIENDS, they do not get a pass if something is not up to par. Learn from me, I just got PLAYED and I super disgusted!!

[Name hidden] Manager, [Name hidden] (Alabama girl-Roll Tide) just slandered me by giving a very-VERY dishonest review. Afraid of star-ratings to go down, much? I mean, there are some HOSTS out there really rushing to submit negative reviews before the guests are able to submit/edit reviews, especially when they know they dropped the ball. Crazy thing was, a few hours earlier, she was all like, "next time you are in town let us know, we could give you friends/family discount".. Tri-polar much? The Airbnb review process is in need of some serious modifications (too political) based on this thread and speaking with others who are using the site. It doesn't allow the guest or even host to edit after the other party as submitted a review. Although I left the issues within the private chat along with tidbits/suggestions to better the experience, she felt compelled because she ASSUMED it would be a bad review publicly I'm sure after I stated all these things that were faulty in the home. I mean, my goodness, for over $1500, you do expect things to be together upon arrival. It was MARDI GRAS, no one wanted to deal with reporting issues day in & out, plus we booked the entire house meaning we wanted as much peace and privacy as possible.

ISSUES:

-Check-In was at 3PM- House Keepers didn't leave the home until after 4pm (still washing and drying sheets/towels), she said the operation was late because of church (puzzled, because if you have a job to do.. next time you need to do some devotionals or leave EARLIER from the house of GOD), there were no toiletries (mainly paper towels, bar soap-in which we brought our personal bars, and hand soap at the guest room sink), the House Keepers had to leave and go get them.... Okay fine... but then....

-The guy, in which we had no clue, someone was living there, had a used creased white dress shirt sitting on the rack (cuffs flipped) with other loose hangers in the mastersbedroom, his clothes was in the closet (fine), but where did you want your guest to place their stuff though?

-We also discovered some mail sitting on his dresser-mastersbedroom, NEWS FLASH, we are total strangers, you allow that? So my mom asked one of the House Keepers are they gonna put it away? There was also mail in the kitchen where he had a bottle of Beefeater gin. I don't care if someone is living there and is traveling/away, YOU DON'T LEAVE THEIR PERSONAL DOCUMENTS OUT!

-In the listing, they stated there was a microwave, na'll, there was NONE (false advertisement).. we used the convection oven, but you can't assume everything goes in it or someone knows how to operate it.

[Host] was sort of standoffish when we asked her how to operate the TV, she told us to take the masterbedroom  "Trial and error" (really wow?) and she told my sister basically to enjoy the Mardi Gras Parades. Little did she know we had been out all morning long and my mom needed some rest. There was only Netflix, which is fine but you basically had to use your phone to control the livingroom TV (apps only). Can't assume everyone was doing Mardi Gras 24/7. Not a big deal but knowing how to operate and the response she gave was poor to be a "Property Manager".

-The towel rack fell after trying to place one on there near the sink

-The ink-black stained "wash rags" in which she claims I found it and merged with fresh ones (what a silly woman), was found with clean face towels, there was also another big towl with the same marks on them. It was folded and washed, the House Keepers clearly was RUSHING and missed this. Nobody has time to play games with YOU, we are toooo old for that, and paid you decent for our stay!!

-The house code was literally four buttons in a row, then you could literally walk in the house (not cool for security purposes)

-There were blood-like stains on pillow cases and pillows

-The streets in the neighborhoods were SUPER tore up and lots of construction to get there (almost like you were on a virtual Jurassic Park ride in a Jeep Wrangler) Not great for alignment, not the host's fault, but a WARNING would have been nice knowing we was traveling for more than 5 hours

-Molded food in fridge as well as expired bread on the counter!

Would anyone bring these issues up to the host?

The icing on the cake is that, we didn't realize we booked with them at another home for my husband and I wedding last April 2017 (property was decent there), in which my sister had to ask them if the surveliance cameras in the living room were operational (they replied no and that the previous owners had them up). Side-eye (now I feel like we was being spied on because she is a habitual liar. She was upset clearly because SHE dropped the ball and didn't thoroughly look through the house. I'm sure she had a good time at Mardi Gras. Hey [Host] thanks for sort of ruining the Airbnb/Mardi Gras experience towards the end, you must feel good about being dishonest. I'll keep you in my prayers.

Even after all this... I didn't scold her PUBLICLY on the review which should've been a hard 3/5, nor did I take many pictures.. Makes me wonder how many friendly guests don't? I gave a decent 4/5 reviews--mainly cleanliness of towels/sheets/mold... Figured the House Keepers were rushing, you know, because of church.. The house and location was good, but GOD doesn't like ugly-lies, I don't care how perfect your stars look on Airbnb, you just tainted yourself, not cool folks.

I've currently escalated these issues and I'm fighting to take my review & HER dishonest review down, &&&&& my cleaning fee back! We'll see how this goes. I'm not a controversial person, but PLEASE beware of this HOST, especially if you have to tell them about anything that is not right, they might give you a dishonest review.IMG_5138.JPG

I completely agree with Ke’Ke, l had a very similar experience. At the end of the stay, before we left l thought l was giving constructive criticism. But the husband of the host got very aggressive and actually grabbed me around the waist and wanted to remove me from their house. We only had a tiny bedroom for privacy, otherwise the hosts dominated the house, running a massage business in their house.

On the review l gave them a 2 out of 5 rating and did not mention the assault, but their review of us very absolutely full of lies and very vicious. I however did report the assault to Airbnb and gave a full report in reply to their comments only hosts see. Airbnb would only say they were suspended for a few days, that’s not GOOD ENOUGH in my eyes.

I have asked Airbnb to take down the vicious lies, that potential guests see and hosts, but of course they refuse. Eventually Guests will wake up to these tactics by Airbnb and see what they are all about, making billions of dollars with no responsibility.
