short term rentals on non primary residence Los Angeles, Ca

I understand that there is a law in city of LA against this. I have been an Airbnb host for quite some time and now have to discontinue renting my house. Would anyone have any suggestions or a way around this law?

Thank you,

David

Hello @David4376

Welcome to CC

There's always grey areas in law and one should have the right to an appeal process.

Use keywords here in CC and you will find others in the same boat, may I suggest you send them a msg and network together and challenge the legalities of it all.

You may also like to go through listings in your area and msg them an enquiry to see if they wish to perhaps take a class action.

Sometimes you will recognize listings in your location & if you have time maybe go and door knock as they may appreciate the networking.

The basic research systems used is often flawed and based on a very small sample of people - those research practices need to be challenged as there's all manner of reasons people should have the basic right to rent for whatever length of time suits them.

The basic research systems may be flawed, but if Airbnb  weren't so fiercely secretive with their data (to the extent of spending hundreds of millions on court battles to keep their dirty little secrets hidden) - and weren't grossly oversaturating city after city with thousands of unmonitored, unsupervised (and often unlawful) commercial listings - then perhaps regulators and local authorities wouldn't be forced to introduce the one-size-fits-all blanket legislation, that prohibits regular hosts in most markets from renting for whatever length of time it suits them, or even from renting at all.
