I was just wondering with holidays coming up if we should decorate our airbnb. We live next door and we decorate ours. And before we joined airbnb we decorated our home there. i'm just curious if anyone does this and their experience doing it. We are booked for the upcoming halloween, thanksgiving, x-mas and new years. Just wanted to know.
Hi @Greg-And-Dana0 That's a great question! I guess it depends on the guests - some people really frown upon Halloween, some don't celebrate Christmas, etc. so I wouldn't want to make them uncomfortable or put them off. We have bookings around Christmas and were told by both groups that they plan to celebrate Christmas while there, so I'm going to decorate, and put a tree up. I would remove the decor if I had a group that didn't celebrate Christmas. Thanksgiving would be a safe bet for North American guests - but we're celebrating Thanksgiving this week-end, yours is later in November. How do you decorate for New Year's? We just leave the Christmas decor up - one size, fits all. Plus, exhaustion has usually set in by then. haha! Karen
I decorate for every season, from Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's day, Easter, 4th of July, Thanksgiving and the Christmas holiday. I do it in a whimsical way nothing religious and all my guest seem to appreciate the home feel while away on vacation. You can't make everyone happy but I like my home to feel cozy for my guests. I have never had any complaints.
We normally decorate our house- not too much just a tree. Last year we had a family with children stay so we purchased some little gifts for them so they would have something to open on Christmas. The guests were very appreciative that we had done both things as it made them feel like they were home.
I think this is great! And so thoughtful of you. I am currently looking for an airbnb for the holidays' in London over Christmas and I am hoping and inquiring if the people will be decorating the house for Christmas as I think my kids will be sad without at least a tree.
Can I decorate the airbnb I'm staying at?
I wish you would
I think it would be a nice touch to have a Christmas tree for people traveling over the holiday. I am hoping our host has a tree for us. Maybe if you are uncertain but people are staying a week over the holiday, it would be a nice touch to inquire and provide something to make it feel more special and a bit like home.
It sounds like a great idea, but I would approach it with caution, especially with people travelling internationally, different cultures, beliefs etc. I know people who don't approve of Halloween, and Christmas, and if you're from outside the USA, Thanksgiving doesn't mean much at all. I would err on the side of "no" decorating to play it safe. I'm also aware that one person's "awesome decorating" is another person's "tacky decorations"!!
