smoke detectors during the night keeping my guests awake
We are new at Airbnb and we are on our 4th booking. Last night a smoke detector kept our guests awake with it's chirping. We are upstairs and we didn't hear it, otherwise we would have fixed it during the night. Also I wonder why they didn't just remove the offending smoke detector. Anyway, they seem pretty cool about it, but I still wonder if I should credit them with last night's charge. What would you do?
They were good guests for not removing it, as that could be seen as interfering with a host's property. They were also very considerate in not waking you up to fix it immediately. All in all, as they are good about it, I would give them something, you work it out. But something. Wine, food, credit, whatever you see fit. And apologies. Do tell guests to let you know if something happens, no matter what time of day/night.
If it were me, I'd apologize with a bottle of wine or a box of chocolates. Also thank them for being so considerate of my sleep and waiting till morning but that I really wouldn't have minded being woken up at night for something like a chirping smoke alarm and hopefully the rest of their stay will be uneventful but if anything like this happens again to call me any time, night or day.
