We have been super-hosts for over a year, but have recently retired and plan to live the majority of the time in Alabama.
Our 1st 2 air bnb's were in rural Alaska. Now we have a large lakefront home in Alabama. It really has 2 separate (independent of each other) homes. We listed the lower level home, 4 bedrooms, game-room, with a private dock and pool, and got quite a few bookings.
It's a great place, but right after we began, we were visited by the city, and said the zoning laws were now such that short term rentals were not allowed. We were stunned! We knew of several within a mile or 2 that were running successfully. However they said that if the others were in the city limits, as soon as they found out about them, they would shut them down too. Anyway, we were totally depending on the money from the bnb to make it here! The official that came to see us indicated that long term rentals would be fine. I'm not sure, (but plan to find out) if he means month to month, or 30 day minimum. I believe that is what he meant. Does anyone have input on this? We have to do something, but I find it hard to see a family coming here for a month? But it looks like some people are making a go of this on air bnb!? We really need advice!! We don'😰t know anyone hosting in this area, we've looked!
