Insurance

Find and promote an underwriter/agency in each state willing to write homeowner policies to cover Airbnb hosts.

While reviewing my policy, turns out, my homeowner's insurance doesn't cover Airbnb and your $1M Host Guarantee doesn't count at an umbrella rider as proof of coverage.  Now we're stuck and will have to purchase "commercial property insurance" for the home we live in full-time.  Of course, you may have this all figured out so what we need is detailed insurance information to protect us from harm.

We found this in Scotland and I Googled "AirBNB house insurance" located a reliable, well known company and gave them our cover requirements. They saved me £140.00 per year for far better cover that included use of our house as a business and non-family (ie paying) guests.

Our cover is for the bricks and mortar (including rebuild costs), accidental damage and full liability cover. In UK the company is called Towergate and their questions were straightforward to answer.

So many countries, so many states... So many kinds of accommodation!

Holiday accommodation/ short term rental insurance is a common enough product to find, I think. But sure, a major insurer might be happy to have business directed its way for a fee.

You'd be surprised, not one underwriter is currently supporting Homeowners in NC.  My guess is that many hosts are in violation of their policies, not to mention the numbers of renters who are most definitely not covered for guests even if they have renter's insurance.  It is clear that they need an insurance specialist or else the word is going to get out and many guests will realize, they are not covered from any kind of slip and fall in a host home.

Same problem in VA as in NC.  This is a huge issue for hosts... for me... and I really enjoy hosting, but insurance companies are wringing their hands and I am in the position of participating in AirBNB with no insurance or being forced to stop renting to keep my homeowners insurance.... really?!?

PLEASE, AirBNB, help us find a solution to this!

I called several agencies in Massachusetts and nobody had any solutions either.

I am really frustrated!  I went to my insurance adjuster yesterday and at first she said it was considered a rental like I've been doing.  she said that a year ago.  I've since got 6 airbnbs furnished and up and running.  Yesterday she said I had to pay the super expensive hotel insurance if i continued with airbnb!!  what a waste of money for all that furniture! I don't understand why this hasn't been addressed by airbnb.  It's monumental!

Lisa,

I have the ability to cover your properties without insuring them as "hotels" or anything like that.  Please let me know if you are interested.
