In the last 4 days, I've had two reservation requests. I accepted both (or tried to), but got a message each time saying that there was "an issue" with the payment and the guest had been notified. I've never gotten this message before, and now I got it two times in a row, whcih seems like more than coincidence to me. Is there something "wrong" with the Airbnb payment system? With my account? Has anyone else experienced this? I've written to both guests asking if they indeed got the messages from Airbnb, but have not heard back.

It seems you have had the bad luck to get reservations by guests who didn't have proper verification or payment methods that didn't go through.
The fact that your guests didn't get back to you may actually be a blessing in disguise and you just dodged a couple of bullets!
Well, I'm not sure that's the case here. One guest had 5 verifications and 5 positive reviews. The other had 4 verifications but no reviews, so it is indeed possible that she is new and had not set up a payment method yet.
