Another update which will increase guest refund requests

I’m very concerned to see this new update.

 

Giving a guest 72 hours to report problems instead of 24 hours is going to make the free stay scammers ecstatic. 24 hours was plenty. Why should a guest get to complain about cleanliness after staying for over 2 days?

 

After hosting thousands of guests I can give many examples including once when I went to re-clean a kitchen floor for a family who clearly had spilled their own takeout food sauces all over it and then told me the floor was dirty. I’m getting very worried about the future of this business when I see changes like this:

 @Catherine-Powell   Scammer Guests have gotten very savvy about how to make complaints to AirBnB and get FREE VACATIONS.  Increasing the amount of time that a guest has to complain, especially about "cleanliness" is going to make it very difficult for hosts to avoid the scammers...   Who is running the show at AirBnB?  FREELOADERS?  Hosting for 1 or 2 days is now going to be out of the question for a lot of hosts.  @Mary419  Thank you for bringing this to the community.

lol, well they are in Cali, in the heartland of Leftist dogma, where Socialism seems like a grand idea. 😅

I suppose the only way to combat this is to take photos before a guest checks in, more work for us to do, to protect ourselves from the few unscrupulous types. 

They're capitalistic bloodsuckers & just because it's in a left leaning state doesn't mean anything. 

Be mindful that this shouldn't be about politics. The bigger conversation is about scammers not a way to divide a conversation. It's not a good look.

it’s more difficult to defend ourselves as hosts.  Maybe from now on I’ll be waiting for the guests, give a quick tour with pictures at check in.  This lets the guest know the host is on top of things and also

helps with theft.

I host several properties and can't do this unfortunately.

Hello, I have made a point  of being at my home to greet the guest , provide a tour and acknowledge their concerns on the first day. I did have very disheartening scammer who claimed I had “ bed bugs” which caused Air BnB to shut me down immediately until it was properly inspected and  report sent to Air BnB via their portal , that alone almost  made me quit hosting . Of course the inspection was negative , but it cost me the scheduled visits I had scheduled. 

Maybe when we show our guests around we can have a check list they sign off, like they do with long term rentals and car rentals, it sounds overly protective and time consuming though, but it may deter frivolous complaints.

Let's keep politics out of this.

This new policy is a good way to loose new host like myself who aren't cemented to Airbnb platform.  I will look at alternative hosting sites now.
