Budget ways to spruce up your space

Decorating.jpg

Hello everyone!

Sprucing up your home is a great feeling, it allows you to give your home just that little finishing touch. It can be something as simple as moving around some furniture or hanging your favourite painting on a wall.

There are many ways to spruce up your home on a budget, as there are many useful tips & tutorials online.

However, I have been wondering whether you have any good tips to share on sprucing up your home on a budget? Perhaps, you might even have good tips to share on how to DIY certain items?

It would be great to hear about your experiences and maybe even about some projects you've worked on 🙂.

I'm looking forward to hearing your answers!

(p.s. I've moved into a new house, and I'm very keen on hearing about any tips that you might have.)

@Florence372, that ombre shower curtain is so interesting! I had never seen one like that, very cool.

I also really appreciate the list of places where you shop, I'm always curious about that 🙃

And @Nick, that's such a great point about going bold in the details! It definitely makes it a lot easier to change things up a bit when you feel like it. I'm currently looking for some fun cushions to put on my grey sofa, so that was the perfect tip. 😬

haha glad I could help @Liv - since everything re-opened this weekend might a good time to focus with such things. I'm after some cushions and throwers for the new couch (also grey!). Maybe we should meet for coffee and go to the shops?

@Nick As long as I can have hot cocoa instead, I'm in! ☃️

Actually, I saw a new place specialising in chocolate (to eat and drink) in my area during the weekend. Just putting it out there... 😁

Aboslutely, @Nick! I also went for a minimalist style @Florence372. Your place looks very well-balanced and it has great colours, indeed!

I've also visited some of the shops you've mentioned! 😃

I like to switch out duvet covers and shams with the seasons. In the summer, I pull out the ice cream maker and in the winter I add holiday decor.

I love to bring in flowers that are in season. Now that the holidays are here I put a few touches of Christmas around. Not too much don’t like a cluttered look.

Choose an art theme that speaks to your location. For example, at a street fair I found art photos of nearby historic entertainment venues (Depression-era theaters and jazz clubs) near me in Chicago. I supported a local artist and created a sense of place and history for my guests in one act. Elsewhere in my guest suite, I went with a bicycle theme of prints (including the famous Einstein-on-a-bike photo) because I live in a bike friendly city with the municipal bike-share Divvy program that enhances the tourist experience.

I just this week spruced up my space, a treehouse, with new paint!

At curbside, our village hardware store owner asked what I needed to cover. I said ten years of people who don't know how to use a woodstove using it anyway.

He set me up with instructions for prepping, priming and then applying coats of washable paint. We'll see how well "washable" works with the woodstove smoke and dog mud and pasta sauce the walls seem to attract. I chose to stay with white. Probably should have picked grey with dashes of red. 😉

Hoping to get a "sparkling clean" from the first guests after we move into Stage 1.  But if not, maybe they will think twice before splashing pasta sauce around?

@Lawrene0 It looks lovely! I especially like the blanket 😊

Fingers crossed your new white walls will remain white 🤞

I am obsessed with these smaller fake plants on bedside tables. They really make the place look cozy and modern

I provide noise machines in every bedroom. The space isn't loud, but i do think it helps the overall ambiance
