COMPULSORY enhanced cleaning protocol unrealistic for many

Dear Airbnb,

Please quit your paternalistic and bullying ‘one size fits all’ policies. There are many locations in the world with little or no community COVID infections, so to coerce hosts (by threatening blocking of calendar and bookings) into complying with a global policy is both unrealistic and unfair.
There are no other booking platforms doing this! Hosts are able to comply with local regulations and requirements and do not need this heavy-handedness from you. I have been a Superhost, with a perfect record on cleanliness, for 7 years straight, and am insulted and offended by your approach. Talk about ‘biting the hand‘ ... we are now planning to prioritise other booking platforms.

wow....cut me off while typing....I do not wear a mask anywhere in my community, others do by choice. And please, no politicizing on my CHOICE.  I certainly do not intend to wear a mask on my farm as I am greeting a guest and familiarizing them with my property.  I have no problem maintaining 6' if that's what they want and the CDC says wear a mask IF maintaining distance is not possible.  So now, Airbnb has required that I wear a mask OR they will drop my listing? Been a superhost since I first opened and am booked every weekend and some weekdays I allow to be booked.  And they even went so far as to say that...if a host refuses to wear a mask due to 'medical reasons' the host must provide a doctor's note????? Are they freaking serious???  What about HIPA laws?  I am actively trying to find another platform that stays A PLATFORM.  And am sad to do so, as I rely on this income as a widow in my 60's, have done a superlative job representing this organization by being the best of the best and now they are kicking me in the ass and I'm at risk to lose income I cannot do without.  Disgusting.  AND they are encouraging (I am sure) guests to be the 'compliance police' , especially in the mask requirement area.

Deb75, thank-you for these words in this community, much needed. Our situation is similar, both in our 60's, we have 3 semi-remote, very private, self-contained accommodations in a location where masks are not mandatory. This was going to be our retirement, we've worked very hard for 20 years towards this goal. Plan was to quit my full time job in a year or two, my wife currently doing all of the cleaning and preparations on her own. This is her full time job. If we complied with airbnb's ridiculous policies, she would be wearing a mask most of the time in a  setting where she sees no one day in and day out while she's working. Sure, it would be easy to tick the box and go on as usual, however, neither of us are interested in perpetuating this global fiasco, that would be unconscionable. We're hoping for a change of policy over the next few weeks, however, preparing to move on, as soon as our obligation to those who have already booked with us is done.

You might want to actually research an explanation of the basic tenets of communism. @Terri261

Along with the questionable ethics of dictating to adults what is acceptable behavior on their own private property, it is bad business practice to place unreasonable demands on individuals and threaten them if they can’t or won’t comply, particularly when there’s no plan in place either to help or hold accountable. What will happen is that Airbnb will drive out the people of high integrity and conscience and retain those who are less principled.

In time, such business practices will doubtless catch up to a company.

@Emily1283 agreed, but communism has nothing to do with it.

@Lisa723 I don't believe I used the term communism; however, "totalitarianism" certainly comes to mind in this instance.

@Emily1283  Totalitarianism? As I read this in West Berlin, I'm looking out the window straight at a remnant of the Wall. I'd love to hear you explain to people who lived on the other side of it decades ago, how similar their life experience under the DDR was to being an Airbnb host who is free to choose a different platform with different rules. These are rough times, and we can all use a good laugh.

@AnonymousI'm glad you asked .

Where I live, covid has been used as a rational to keep people under home lockdown (shelter in place, is the polite euphemism), force people to cover their faces or be denied service, and coerce local farmers and friends out of business while big corporations get a free pass. The elderly are isolated from their loved ones to the point of despair. Clergy have been arrested for praying in their churches while violent rioters and looters are permitted to burn cities.

Science and our own best interest we are told are the measure for this unprecedented overreach. Dissenting voices in medicine, law, and psychiatry are silenced, mocked, and even threatened. If you are unfamiliar with what I am talking about, then I suggest you have seen only one side to a multi-faceted issue.

I am sorry if my observations offend you to the point that you feel the need to use shaming to underscore your own opinion. By the time Johnny Average spots tyranny, history attests that it is often too late.

Yes, I visited Checkpoint Charlie when I lived in Germany. And I studied the rise of the National Socialists as well. It wasn't, however, until I read the biography of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, native of your own Berlin, that I saw how the rise of social darwinism, secular humanism, and eugenics gave rise to a an overall disregard for life and thereby personal liberty. But that is another topic for another time on the same theme: history repeats.

If this causes you to laugh, I'm sorry. I find the events of these last six months very sobering.

Covid has come and gone for many in my circle, and has proved mild and/or highly treatable for the ones able to access the proper drugs (again, no thanks to alarming overreach on the part of certain officials into the medical sector, and not FDA regulations). It is my personal opinion there are other evils looming for all of us in this that are of a far more widespread and sinister nature.

Vielen Dank fuer deine Meinung. Ich wuensche Dir trotzdem alles Gute.

beautifully and accurately stated. Thank you

@Anonymous  I wrote a detailed and thoughtful response outlining all the unprecedented overreach we've seen in government and now the private sector during the last six months. And how dissenting voices in science, law, and medicine have been shamed and silenced.

Airbnb deleted my post - twice - without explanation.

Yes, I stand unapologetically by the word "totalitarianism."

I live in Canada...opening the windows in -40 degrees is not a good thing. Ice will form around the window edges and they won’t close. If you do manage to close the window and lock it, the -40 temperature of the window will now be quickly exposed to +20 degree temperatures inside, building up even more ice. If you attempt to open the windows with ice formations like this they will break the locks.

@Katrina79 Exactly!!! - Even in the UK at +10 -14 degrees at this time of year, I don't want to open windows and send my expensive heating into the street!

Oh that lovely fresh air in the lungs & respiratory system @Katrina79 @Helen350

I was reading through some history on Open Air Schools and Davos, Switzerland recently in  our National library of New Zealand website that suggested and recommended opening windows to let air through to recover from respiratory conditions.

Davos, Switzerland, where World Economic Forum ( WEF) is based) was where the Brits & others traditionally went to for their health & well being.

The English Medical Doctors took a different approach to those in Germany how to get well with the former telling pple to stay indoors & rest and the later going out and about in the fresh air.

What's changed???

Vitamin D & C do wonders for one's well being.

Open Air Schools , and buildings like hospitals, were designed to make the most of the natural sunshine.

Now we have air-conditioning, heaters etc.

I'm not sure I could cope with minus 40 degrees @Katrina79

How do you folk go out and about to school, work etc?

Your regions health statistics would be worthwhile reading.

@Helen427 "How do you folk go out and about to school, work, etc?"

hehe, this made me chuckle 😛

Cheers @Emilia42

@Katrina79I feel for you, that's soooo sooo cold.

It makes us all appreciate those clever animals out and about in nature.

Whoever it was who created us all, human beings, animals, nature is an incredible being.

Thinking back on the world as it was 100 or so years ago it's understandable why they used animal skins/ fur/ hair/ wool/ for clothing, including that of mice.

We really are so blessed to have many of the things we do compared with those who froze in minus 40 degrees.

It must be so beautiful in your location @Katrina79

Haha @Belinda55  here we are so blessed with our climates in Australia and New Zealand.

Next time someone says it's too hot over summer let's share @Katrina79 story.

I hope you will be participating in this years Month of Celebrations this year as  I'm sure like myself others would love to see Winter Wonderland animals  at Christmas
