COMPULSORY enhanced cleaning protocol unrealistic for many

Dear Airbnb,

Please quit your paternalistic and bullying ‘one size fits all’ policies. There are many locations in the world with little or no community COVID infections, so to coerce hosts (by threatening blocking of calendar and bookings) into complying with a global policy is both unrealistic and unfair.
There are no other booking platforms doing this! Hosts are able to comply with local regulations and requirements and do not need this heavy-handedness from you. I have been a Superhost, with a perfect record on cleanliness, for 7 years straight, and am insulted and offended by your approach. Talk about ‘biting the hand‘ ... we are now planning to prioritise other booking platforms.

Ha ha! It was a few years ago just before I turned 60! Thanks @Cormac0 🙂

We all need to be mindful that Influenza recorded cases/ deaths is near zilch across the world.

Join the dots.

Interestingly the Coronavirus Act Judicial Review in the UK set down for 29 October 2020, Simon Dolan & Francis Hoar/ Wedlakes is now having BigBrotherWatch Civil liberties group & an MP whose daughter committed suicide a couple of years ago acting as Interveners in the Court processes bc it's such an important Constitutional matter.

Meanwhile in New Zealand  our Judicial Review that Law writer, Andrew Borrowdale in his wisdom took to Court, and where it was found to be in breach of our Bill of Rights with the Level 4 lockdown is still going through Courts of Laws  on appeal for the rest of the decision.

There's also judicial reviews/ Disputes in relation to the Coronavirus Act & related matters in Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, USA , South Africa and Australia.

The whole one size fits all Science approach needs to be questioned why it happened in the first place instead of using the common sense long standing easy to understand Public Health Acts across the world.

     Like I said back in April here, this Covid 19 will be a phenomenon that there will be books upon books written about it and will in time take a whole different perspective. Till then, it will show the benevolence & good will of humans, but also the charlatanism, stupidity, need for power and outright corruption of humans.

   Airbnb should be suggesting guidelines but let local health departments define local realities and stop trying to micro-manage its hosts about every aspect of social life, from politics to health issues. As I have said before they are part of the high-tech mentality that feels its their role to now create a new world order for the rest of us simple people (see Facebook, Twitter, Google, Amazon, Instagram, etc).

   I clicked on 'Accept' because I have a string of bookings with them and we already were under even worse Draconian moronic rules in Belize (which the minister just radically changed to control the 'expert' lunatics), not because I take what Airbnb has to say or even thinks too seriously.

   They are but one of my booking agencies, nothing else.

@Andrew0  I'm glad you asked.

Where I live, covid has been used as a rational to keep people under home lockdown ('shelter in place" is the polite euphemism), force people to cover their faces or be denied service, and coerce local farmers and friends out of business while big corporations get a free pass. The elderly are isolated from their loved ones to the point of despair. Clergy have been arrested for praying in their churches while violent rioters and looters are permitted to burn cities.

Science and our own best interest we are told are the measure for this unprecedented overreach, despite medical assertion that alcoholism, abuse, and suicide have skyrocketed. . Dissenting voices in medicine, law, and psychiatry are silenced, mocked, and even threatened. If you are unfamiliar with what I am talking about, then I suggest you have seen only one side to a multi-faceted issue.

If my observations offend you, my apologies. By the time Johnny Average spots tyranny, history attests that it is often too late.

Yes, I visited Checkpoint Charlie when I lived in Germany. And I studied the rise of the National Socialists as well. It wasn't, however, until I read the biography of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, native of your own Berlin, that I saw how the rise of social Darwinism, secular humanism, and eugenics gave rise to a an overall disregard for life and thereby personal liberty. But that is another topic for another time on the same theme: history repeats.

If this causes you to laugh, I'm sorry. I find the events of these last six months very sobering.

Covid has come and gone for several individuals I know, and has proved mild and/or highly treatable for the ones able to access the proper drugs (again, no thanks to alarming overreach on the part of certain officials into the medical sector, and not via FDA regulations). It is my personal opinion there are other evils looming for all of us in this that are of a far more widespread and sinister nature.

Vielen Dank fuer deine Meinung. Ich wuensche Dir trotzdem alles Gute.

@Emily1283 I like what you said! (No need to speak to Andrew in German, he's American, lol!)  🙂

@Helen350thank you! Yes, haha, I figured as much but took a chance on him being bilingual, living in Berlin -- I still take every opportunity I can to sprechen auf deutsch 🙂

@Emily1283 totalitarianism is a form of government that "prohibits opposition parties, restricts individual opposition to the state and its claims, and exercises an extremely high degree of control over public and private life." While I could agree with an assertion that the head of our current federal administration is a totalitarian wanna-be, Airbnb is not a state or government and has literally no control over you. You are completely free to walk away from Airbnb whenever you choose.

The new mandatory protocols are absolutely ridiculous. I rent a single room in 2,500 sq. ft. home and typically charge $20 to clean the bedroom and bathroom. Requiring me to sanitize every shared space, to socially distance in my own home and to wear a mask in my own home is beyond the pale. To accommodate this level sanitization would require a minimum of $100 cleaning fee and multiple hours. Best of luck...I decline.

Does anyone have clarification on what will happen to reservations we have booked already that begin after November 20 if we don't agree to the new cleaning rules. I can't find the answer anywhere.

@Jennifer1961

They are very quiet on this point, in denial that anyone is going to refuse to comply perhaps?

@Jennifer1961

Here’s the response I received from Airbnb Support:

“Your listing may not be delisted, however as stated on the email;

All hosts are required to agree to these COVID-19 safety practices by November 20, 2020. Hosts who don’t complete this requirement before the deadline may be unable to accept new reservations.“

So I guess existing reservations will remain ...

@Belinda55  @Jennifer1961  - Similar wording was used last time there was a worldwide swoop on making hosts upload ID for verification...... Those who couldn't or wouldn't survived, I believe, & were not delisted, as threatened.......... (Just saying...)

I haven't opted in yet.  I don't feel like there is clarification as to what exactly the protocols are... the 5 step or enhanced.  With a 5br/3ba house in Sunriver that is fully stocked I don't know my housekeeper would have time to re-wash every dish in the kitchen and other items that are on the enhanced list.  She already spends hours getting the house ready between guests and I consistently get sparkling clean.

This is what Airbnb told me about my worries over the cleaning taking so long.

"I would say that your best bet is to reduce your kitchen down to the basics as other hosts have commented that they have done."

Don’t think that the Airbnb cleaning partner Handy will help! I booked with them as they’d be familiar with the guidelines. They said that they need 4 hours 45 minutes to perform the cleaning and I only have 4 hours for the cleaning before guests show up. I called Airbnb and support said that  they’re not responsible for Handy and recommended that I block off an extra day for each cleaning!
