Do you host during the Holiday season?

Luggage

Hello everyone,

I can't quite believe I am saying this, but the Holiday season is fast approaching us! Millions of people use this period to visit family, friends, but for many they love to travel. As a host it can be a very busy time, but it is also an amazing opportunity to celebrate with people from all around the world.

Do you open up your home to host during the Holiday season? If so, we would love to hear how you make this time extra special. Perhaps you do something festive to welcome your guests or have memorable stories of celebrating with them.

We’d love to hear how you are preparing or whether you have stories or experiences from the past. Our Marketing team may ask to feature them in an upcoming campaign! 🙂

Thanks,

Lizzie

Absolutely! I love having guests in our home during the holidays while we are visiting our own family in another city. We leave our Christmas tree up and stockings hung so that the family that is renting our house can still experience the festivities. Last year a sweet family with young children stayed in our home. I loved hearing from the mother how much her family felt at home and enjoyed simple, classic Christmas decor. I think if you are going to host during the holidays, its a very nice touch to include some festive elements without cluttering up the space.

you never know you might have some bookings still. Norway would be a fantastic place to visit at this time of the year, just need some woolly jumpers and cozy judi online clothes and it is a perfect stay! 🙂

We already got a guest for Christmas but for the new year a potential guest still thinking about. I will close my place for 15 days and go to New Zealand travel as an Airbnb guest. For Thai people in the new year we will be going to temple in a morning offering a food to the monk.

Hello @Nutth0,

I hope you are having a great week. 🙂

It is great to hear you are already expecting guests over this period. Do you think you will do anything different to normal due to the occasion?

It is exciting you are planning a trip to New Zealand. I went for the first time about 2 and a half years ago and it was incredible. I will be planning my visit back as soon as I can! Have you planned where you might go? South / North island - both?

This time I will go to a South NZ, Just got a multiple Visa ( So may visit more next year ). I didn't plan to decorate our place as in Thailand now we are in mourning. So I may suggest my guest to a church if their want. @Lizzie Last week we got an American-Mexican guest and their invite me to joint brunch cooking by them ... it was nice to experience to me as we didn't eat Mexican food much ( I think only about 10 times in my life ) So if Christian mas or New year I can join their meal it may be something special for me too.

In previous years I've offered holiday dates, but they never seem to book. But really, it's nice to shut off my "hosting brain" for that time, so I can't complain.

This year I'm offering up a NYE stay for my company's holiday charity raffle - if it's not making me money, maybe a charity will have better luck! 😉

@Lizzie

of course we host in December ! 🙂  it is VERY BUSY time of the year in Zagreb .

Zagreb is No 1 ADVENT DESTINATION in December according to Lonely planet. There are festivals, concerts, fairs and events all over the city center from December 2nd - January 7th.

If anyone interested just search the net for adventzagreb dot hr and you will see great Christmas vibe in Zagreb  🙂

And of course book our place which is just 10 min walk away from all those events but far enough to be able to sleep at night 🙂

@Lizzie Our Christmas Day is blocked off but that’s just in case any waifs and strays need a bed for the night. But apart from that we are open. Our Christmas in NZ is generally a community picnic beach day, westher permitting. We actually have our Christmas dinner mid July. Don’t ask me who thought of that idea but everything is decked out for Christmas then. ;):

Id like to get some theme in my little place for Xmas, I like those Pinterest crafty ideas with cones and driftwood ..Watch this space.

Hehe! I like that you have your Christmas dinner in July @Ria, how long has this tradition being going for?

OOo a community beach day sounds really fun, does that mean that you eat lots of fishy things to compliment your surroundings? Have you ever had guests join you at this time?

@LizzieHeh I guess it was started by all the expats wanting the big Christmas dinner experience but realizing that it wasn’t an option for summer.

There might be some raw fish on offer served with salads. ( not really raw but cooked by the chemical effects of acid from lemon) that’s really yum and mixed with cream.

This is my first season as a host irll see if there are any takers 😉

FE43E898-C371-401B-B992-A4D775324206.jpeg@LizziePs took today’s guests to see a kiwi blessing ..our predator free islands are little crèches for young kiwi. This one now two years old and big enough to fend off stoats was being released today from Limestone island. His name is,Quincy

Awww @Ria16, this is the cutest thing and how funny that he is called Quincy. 🙂

This little Kiwi looks quite happy just relaxing, it is wonderful that he is now strong enough to be released. Did you guest enjoy their visit?

Holiday season....now I guess that depends where in the world you are.

I host all year round, makes no difference to me what season it is. But this is my income and not a hobby.

Our peak holiday season runs from Late December to Early April in Tasmania.

We are currently in our "shoulder" season with good visitor numbers.

During the Christmas season we put up trees and decorate them for guests, or if we know children are coming we leave the decorating to them.

Celebrating with guests is something we guage at the time, not everyone enjoys the festive season for all kinds of reasons.

Hello @Gina32,

It is fantastic to hear more about your hosting experience around this time of year.  I like that you leave the tree decoration for the children, if they are staying. I still get excited about decorating my tree, I think it is because you only get to see inside the box of decorations once a year.

Do you have many traditions for this time of year that you guests join you with?
