Hey everyone,
A few Hosts have been experimenting with selling extra amenities and services to guests - apart from the stay itself. This got me thinking and I’m curious to know if any of you have ever tried or thought about doing something similar.
It could be an optional meal that you cook yourself, a ride to the airport that you charge for separately or perhaps some paintings made by a local artist.
Either way, I’d love to learn more about extras you might offer guests. Do you upsell anything in your listing? How do you advertise it to guests?
Thanks,
Liv

Interesting topic!
So far, I have not offered anything extra that I could charge to guests.
However, I think this idea interesting and I am interested in hearing what other hosts have to say.
Another point. Except for Airbnb Experiences, does not the idea of upselling extra services conflict with the Airbnb terms of use in some circunstances?
What the hosts can do or not in terms of offering extra services?
The ere is a section that you can charge for additional services.
Where?
Interesting topic for me, too. I'll watch and learn, I hope 🙂
I am not very successful in (up)selling anything, I usually just lend things for free. My bike, for example.
Hope to hear some new tips and tricks from you, guys 🙂
We thought of offering bikes. But decided against it for two reasons: 1) did not what the additional insurance liability (sure they could sign a release- still would not erase the feeling of responsibleness if they got hurt or killed) 2) During my research we found that our two bike shops offer rentals.
I have a bike and some guests use it. I tried to charge it per day. My experience was: guest would love to use it but if you tell them it cost $15 per day, they don’t like anymore. It was prior the city bike. Now we have city bikes on every corner and I don’t offer them anymore.
Yep, better off upping the nightly price and including the bike for "free"
I think that this is a good idea and purchased 2 electric bikes that do not have chains, but instead they have belts for pedaling. I still have not pulled the trigger but i think it would be a good one but my co-host is fearful of liability.
@Liv We are selling calendars in aid of the village defibrillator fund raising. I think this is about the limit of commercialism here.
@mikeandjane0
But what a great initiative Mike... And as a trained Nurse Thank you.
Have you considered taking a First Aid course plus training in de-fibrillation?
Tours, we have own own tour business. (https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g291977-d17388041-Reviews-Privasea_Adventures-Placenci...) Not advertising, including url just to give an example. We just bought a van to add inland tours to ruins and cave tubing.
@Liv we have toyed with the idea but come down on the side of it being counter to the guest experience. We don't want anyone to feel like we are hustling them for extra $$ while they stay.
That said, I did just post on Instagram that I want to feature local artwork in our space as kind of a "holiday gallery show." We wouldn't get anything monetary from this-- its more of an experiment to see if we have interest from artists or if the guests reach out to purchase any items to those people directly. I will be happy to update if we get this off the ground.
