What do beer and politics have in common? Both can be discussed excellently!

And what does that have to do with the Community Center? I'll have to go further:

A human is a social animal. In the community he exchanges experiences with others, discusses, forms an opinion, and learns in the process. This is especially true for the complex topic of hosting. Most of us are not trained professionals, but homesharers who enjoy hosting travellers from all over the world.

Of course it's good to have a forum where you can turn to with your good and bad experiences, get advice and information, and in case of a crisis also help. But there is no beer.

That's why the idea of a beer garden was born at the Airbnb Open 2015 in Paris: not only do people want to meet online and virtually, they also want to look each other in the eye.

The Airbnb Open in San Francisco, Paris and Los Angeles was a great opportunity to meet with hosts from all over the world, to see what they have in common, and to share new ideas through presentations and workshops. Then unfortunately it was over; such big events are not easy to manage logistically (the Paris terrorist attack on the second evening made this tragically clear to us).

The Host Days DACH in Munich and Hamburg were a cosy place to be. The German hosts themselves were asked to stand in front and pass on their knowledge (e.g. on the topics "Pleasure and pain of reviews", "Responsible hosting" and "Pricing & Calendar setting").

Those who have not yet had the opportunity to participate in the large and small meetings organized by Airbnb should take a look around the group of their choice, where volunteer hosts get involved and organize local meetings.

There, either new hosts are explicitly approached (New Host Meetups), or specialist speakers are invited and workshops held (e.g. on taxes or housing alienation), or controversial issues of local housing policy are discussed with politicians and decision-makers.

And when politicians go on holiday, those who stayed at home meet in the AirBn beer garden for informal chats. There is always an opportunity!

@Lizzie  and @Till&Jutta Thanks for a brief look at what I'm sure was awesome.....the topics in Hamburg sound great...........These Opens sound so fabulous to be around others that are involved like you, maybe different than you, but still under the same umbrella as you with the similar spirit. 

My husband and I went  with a bus full of other hosts for a full day - organized by Airbnb to our Capital city, Tallahassee - about a 3 hr drive each way. We met with Senators, and Representatives from all over our state with the hope of sharing our love, needs and wants to continue hosting. We also shared how we positively  impact our community.  We hoped for support and some organized legislation so that we can continue with our short term rentals with Airbnb. It was a day of excitement, fun and even celebration somehow - as we all know,  the News loves a good fight/story and the hotels had their folks there  in full force to oppose us. Some weeks later the Senate met again and as it turned out just when the days to vote and the end to our struggle was in sight- we had a big storm and everything was more important than our struggle with short term rentals and it was finally tabled and dismissed.
