Hi my name is Jillian and I'm from the Gold Coas, Australia. I have a customer who is enquiring to stay with his girlfriend and he has asked me if I give another discount because the girlfriend is a second person and somehow he thinks he ought to get an extra discount because there is the two of them. Has anyone heard of this discount before?
Cheers, Jillian
The "extra person" discount? You mean you've never heard of it??!! LOL.
NO discount. 🙂
I think most hosts agree guests asking for discounts are nothing but trouble.
.
"Dear guest,
as You will certainly agree negotiations and calculations and correspondence to answer Your question are generating considerable costs on my side. May I therefore suggest You pay the amount of $10 up front to get an answer to Your discount question"
Hi @Jillian63 🙂
As @Suzanne302 mentions many hosts believe it is a red flag whenever a guest asks for a discount.
I just took a look at your listings and it seems that at one of them you don't charge extra for the second person but at the other listing you do. Are you aware of that? Personally I never give a discount 🙂
@Jillian63 Your guest is trying to get you to discount when in fact you should be charging an extra guest fee on both of your 2 guest rooms. There are more towels, ulities used, extra amenities and another breakfast to serve, all of which cost you more time and money. Tell him no, you are already at a discounted rate. Also change your cancellation policy to at least moderate to avoid last minute cancellations and changes. I would add and extra guest fee of at least $15-$20 USD to cover your extra breakfast expense at the very least.
@Jillian63 Just say no, it's considered a red flag by many a host. I sorely regretted the time I did it - the worst guests I have had, a complete pain and they cost me more than they paid.
@Jillian63, no, no, no. Are they crazy? Why on earth would you give a discount for accomodating extra people? I would decline their booking immediately - they are not worth the trouble.
