Guest has Overall rating of one star.

Good Evening Community,

Just got a last minute book for tomorrow night.  I noticed although he's been a member since 2014 he has one review but an Overall rating of one star.  I'm a bit concerned as I've never seen any potential guest come in w/this low a rating.  I just asked if he could elaborate a bit and am waiting for an answer.  Thoughts?

Hi Sally, being a Superhost with over 400 reviews you would know the score by now. What was his review by the host like, was the hosts commentary that bad, or did he just hit the wrong end of the star field....a 1 instead of a 5!

I would suspect that it is a mistake because he would not be able to IB with a 1 star review....he would have to submit a reservation request!

@Sk1 It's definitely a concern and I think you did exactly the right thing in asking him to elaborate. If he doesn't respond, I'd contact Airbnb to cancel the booking, if he does respond, let us know what he says and maybe we can help more. There was another post here about a week ago of a similar situation, the host messaged with the guest (the review stated he left a big mess behind him) and the guest promised he'd be respectful this time, the host gave him a chance and he left another big mess.

I actually don't think I'd accept a last minute booking from a guest with only one review and that one bad.

I do know the score by now but never saw a rating of one star.  The one review was not bad.  Said they'd be happy to have him and group back again.  All quite confusing...tiz why I came here.

He responded immediately as, I was writing to the community, and addressed my concern.  He also sent over the Airbnb places he's stayed, quite a world traveler, and even said he's staying in an Airbnb tonight and will have the Host vouch for him if it would make us more comfortable.

He's alleviated our concerns and we're gonna take him in.

@Sk1  Sounds like maybe he mistakenly got dinged by a host who hit the 1* accidentally, poor guy. Too bad the rest of his hosts didn't bother to leave him reviews. Maybe when he's at your place, (assuming he turns out to be fine), encourage him to ask his future hosts to please leave him reviews so as to counteract that bad one.

Again, the one actual review was not bad.  As you mentioned, it's the 1 star Overall rating that's strange.

Thank you to all who responded! 

The guest that had a quirky rating and a review that didn't match turned out to be absolutely lovely.  No issues whatsoever.  He and friend arrived a little later than expected (which easily happen up here) as they got sidetracked an unexpected "adventure."  They each had easy smiles, friendly, good conversationalist and poitive energy.  Wish they could've spent more time w/us.  All in all, we'd have them back in a heartbeat.
