I had guest who showed up with 2 kids instead of the claimed one. Guest claimed they were sure they said two but that was not he case. Two separate messages claiming "MY CHILD" and"MY KID", plus childern were extremly rambuntions in my lovely, perfectly decorated and very clean childhood home. They jumped on every piece of furniture in the first five min and jumped on a couch on the edge of a 2nd story deck. Have had three converstations with guest too include when I found the children playing sword fights with my bamboo placemats rolled up all while standing on the same couch on the edge! I asked them to get mom and they told me she was in the bedroom ( no where near the deck). I explained againg about unattneded children ( posted in rules) and she hopefully took it to heart. Help, after a year of 98% positive hosting, I am in fear of two weeks of hell and damage from these children. FYI- I sumbitted this to Airbnb to document what is occuring and to have them verify he said ONE child.
Any guidance would be much appreciated!

If you still want to keep this guest, use the airbnb message option to clearly state to your guest what you have just told us here, and give her a warning that if those actions continue you will ask airbnb to place them somewhere else. You should also immediately go to the resolution center on the airbnb site and request addtional funds for the extra person for two weeks. Now, that is if you want to keep those guests.
If you don't want to keep them, get on the message board and voice your complaints AND phone Airbnb to request that other accomodation be found for them.
It is very important that all of this be done in writing in the message section of the Airbnb site (under your reservations).
Thanks! I would prefer to keep them and it has quieted down consierably tonight. So I will send them a message via the message system. I am on the fence about the extra guest fee. The booked before I implemented that- after I found that guests often fibbed......should I still request the additional funds and run the risk of making them mad? As it is, my nice message I have formatted does ask ( demand) they give me their word the children be attended at all times. That could make them mad as well. Thanks! So glad I found this forum!
I hate kids. There, I said it!
I just came from cleaning an apartment where we had a family with three kids, despite them booking for two kids. I had already busted them on this reminding them that ALL guests must be included, as per my house rules. They figured the 2 year old didn't count. I am so glad that I was firm on this, as the apartment was an absolute disaster, and the only thing that kept me sane as I scraped glue off the dining room table and swabbed glitter off the tiles was the sound of the money chinging into the bank. Every surface in the apartment was covered in sticky fingerprints, and there was cereal loops ground into the carpet everywhere. Every single soft furnishing has to be laundered, and I could only do a very quick makeshift clean for guests arriving today. On top of the absolute mess, the guest left soiled diapers in the garbage, and the garbage was sitting there for me to take out. I almost puked.
On a different note, I normally never accept pets, but since it's the Westminster Dog Show and it's a slow time, I did accept a booking for a family bringing their dogs to compete. These massive Dobermans are the bloodiest scariest looking things ever but as sweet as pie and so quiet. Of course these are show dogs, so impeccably behaved. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I may prefer dogs to kids!
Sorry for the hijack of the thread, and sorry that you have kids causing a ruckus and making you crazy! I feel for you.
Thanks you for saying it..... I don't mind kids but I really hate kids as guests! Did you make the guests leave with the 2 year old? I busted my guests on the extra kid too but they seemed to tonight at least be keeping them quiet and not jumping off the decks!
My last kids were very sweet but we found gummy bears in evey window sill and chip bags under the bed and diapers. After this current fiasco, I am considering my listing to be child free. Can we do that? I highly discourage them now and tell them his house is full of antiques, so the last few were tolerable but not sure if it's worth losing sleep. There are tons of party beach houses out there- ours is just no on of them. Can we be that exclusive with out breaking laws? I don't care about your race, religion or sexual preference as long as you are clean and quiet!
@Tiare-and-Alfi0 I had the same experience before I put in the no children language in my House Rules. Yep, you don't have to accept children! When they arrived the first thing the kids did while I was showing the parents around the house was to go to the twin beds and start jumping up and down on them! The parents said nothing as I gulped. Really attrocious behaviour by the kids and the parents.
Kids are not worth it.. Fingerprints everywhere, food everywhere, stains, you name it. And, to top it off, one of these little angels stuffed butter in the fabric softener dispenser of my washing machine! Nope, no more kids!
@Clare0 @Maria-Lurdes0 Gee, I am glad I am off the scene for a few months. I will use this time well to prepare for the disasters I am likely to have....... not reflect on the lovely times I have had!!! Cheers.....Rob
Mostly we have had lovely guests that were like friends. And they added to the wonderful memories to this home- but I will in the future discourage or not allow children. But I will have to add this to my standard reply which nicely includes "no smoking, no pets, not children) before I accept reservations. Each no added after a guests failed to read the listing. This current guest firmly believes that children do not count when making reservations- I asked him if he got away with that logic when they flew here! It was like the guest who showed up with not one but two dogs (one a puppy). She said she noted we had dogs (next door but stated in full discloure) so she assumed we allowed pets! Lessons learned!
