I had a bad hosting experience and I don't want to leave a public review. What can I do?

I hosted a guest recently and it was a bad experience. The guest was renting my place because his girlfriend was visitng him (the girlfriend was all right). He did not observe the house rules and he broke my apartment building lock during his stay. My neighborhood is very quite because most of the residents are working adults and grad students. He took the house rules for granted. My neighbor came to my apartment complaining about him one night because he stepped the floor really hard after 11 pm and the girl downstairs could not sleep. After the girl's complain, he stopped stepping on the floor but still talked and walked loudly. He also broke the apartment lock. He ripped off the lock and the key got stuck in the lock. I was truly suffering all the time. I tried to be nice to him but he really pissed me off. Since he would be my last Airbnb guest of the year, I don't want to have a bad ending. Therefore, I decided not giving him a public review because I could not give him a good one. I just realized that Airbnb also accept private reviews.

Shall I wirte him a private review? or I should just let it go. BTW, I did not say anything to him during his stay (I did ask him to stop stepping the floor) because I am a girl and I worried if I said anything toward him, and he would be mean to me which would make my hosting experience even worse. I did not want to get into any troubles. Please give me some advices. Thank you.

Hi @YiFan1,

You should review all your guests, good or bad.  If you do not provide a public review, how can other hosts know he is a bad guest?  Maybe he was like this at some other host's listing and that host did not review him either.  Maybe that host could have saved you the headache.  If you don't review him, he will continue to get away with being loud and breaking house rules.

Think about whether you have something to share with other potential hosts who would appreciate knowing what you went through. Pay it forward as they say...It's not necessarily a negative to leave an honest review, even if it's somewhat bad. You're helping out many, many future hosts.
