Please don't fall for this.

The only person who may benefit from this is OP as he has hundreds of hosts liking his listing, where as other hosts here only get a few hosts liking theirs.

There are much better ways to boost your listing. Look at what Airbnb recommends hosts do here:-

Hi, Simplytravelling the world.

Here's our listing  https://www.airbnb.gr/rooms/4265216

Thank you.

We see nothing wrong with a bit of promotion and we'll certainly return the favour. While on the subject of promotion, our tiny Greek island, Syros, boasts an International Opera Festival this year in July featuring "La Boheme" & others at our baroque Opera House/Theatre, a small film festival, cartoon festival & a celebration of classical, rock & greek music and dance, museums also art galleries. So, not just a great beach and food destination from a place you may never have heard of. Oh, ancient & modern history, ancient philosophers caves, too !

Hi

I added your property to my wishlist.

Please do so with mine:

Hi @Βασίλης-and-Ann0

Your location sounds amazing and you are right absolutely nothing wrong with hosts promoting their listings. We are running a business after all.

My point is that what Simply Travelling the World suggests, is highly unlikely to give you any PR/marketing benefits.

It will not drive traffic to your listing, it will not push you higher up the rankings in terms of where your listing is seen.  And it will not, as he claims, help you increase your prices or get more bookings.

It will have absolutely no impact on your listing at all 🙂 😞

I think he genuinely thinks he has found some magic formula, but unfortunately he doesn't have a good understanding of how SEO works, hence him suggesting actions that won't have any impact. I have asked him to explain how him posting a link to your listing on his social media channels and generating one like on your wish list will have an impact, but unfortunately haven't heard anything back from him to explain.

You would be much better focussing on providing great value accommodation, with lovely photos, great reviews and ratings and making yourself stand out from your competitors. Also look to partner with others that can help you market your property such as your local tourism organisations or other hosts who refer people on, if they can't host somebody.

Hi @Helen3

Thank you, Helen, for your message and, yes, our island/location is definitely amazing. We believe we provide great value accomodation, lovely photos, great reviews and ratings - we fall short of superhost status only because most of our guests come for 7 days or 2 weeks on summer family vacations so not enough stays.

You're lucky in that you live in a beautiful city which people will travel to all year round. Your listing looks fabulous & so comfortable, we're wish listing you for one of our future UK trips. Love Bristol.

Our problem lies in the fact that people tend to see the Greek Islands as only a beach destination (we're almost full July & August, again with long bookings. Hey, not complaining ! ) when actually the absolute best months can be April, May, June -not too hot, quiet beaches, warm refreshing seas, long hikes in lovely green verdant lushness to tiny white villages, birds passing through from Africa to Europe stop for a rest on exactly the same twig on the same tree every year ( how do I know?.... they've told me! ) In our garden we get Golden Orioles, Hoopoes, Nightingales,Jays,Chiffchaffs, warblers & other passerines -a bird watchers paradise. Sept and Oct offer the same but with balmy days & better prices.

Sorry to sound like a travelogue ( Sunday Times, take note please. ). I suppose it's a kind of mind set that people tend to associate Greece with summer or school holidays.

So I guess you can say that we're desperate to put ourselves out there any way we can as are others like us.

BTW, since our original message of a few hours ago, our wish list has indeed had quite a boost. Surely, no bad thing.

Hi @Βασίλης-and-Ann0

Yes indeed your place looks gorgeous and I agree I would much rather be in Greece in May or late September than in the summer months. I will definitely favourite your place. Not as part of a marketing push but because I genuinely like it and would consider a visit.

Thank you for your kind comments about my place. If you decided on a return visit to Bristol, let me know and I would be happy to offer you a discount 🙂

My day job involves leading marketing and communications campaigns and I used to work in tourism many years back - so let me have a think about ideas to promote your listing out of season and I will send you a PM over the weekend.

Absolutely it's lovely to see people favourite your listing, it is a nice boost to hosts to see people like their place. As to whether it will have any impact in where your listing sits in itself I think would be highly unlikely.

Best Helen

At the end of the day we all would like to see our target guests visit our listings and to convert those views to listings. This should be our focus in terms of any marketing and promotional activity we carry out.

Hi Helen,

Oh, thanks for taking the time to reply & your kind offer of a discount. We, too, will give a generous discount if you decide to visit us, pick you up, too - bring your pals as we have 4 double bedrooms. Easyjet flies from Gatwick to Mykonos daily until October then it's a short sail over to our island or a helicopter ride over as some of our guests prefer. Start the holiday with style !!

Yes, please have a think, how lovely of you. Look forward to your PM and, if possible, any ideas which are very welcome from someone with your obvious expertise.

  Thanks again,

Vassilis & Ann.

@Helen3  in terms of marketing i have all those bases covered both locally and internationally and my own website.  i can't imagine its any different in any other country to mine in that all marketing comes at a cost.  selection is all key but the learning curve means you're going to lose some gain some.  perhaps lose more to begin with.  this also does not guarantee traffic will end up as a reservation that will translate as profit.

even doing your best doesn't equate to 5 stars.

wishlisting comes at no cost and the time used is not as intense as operating a number of accommodation websites and paying for them at the end of each month or a year in advance, or per click etc.  i think the return on time, even if it is just perception is all gain.  but as written earlier by me, about 20% of what i've seen i've liked.  and of that about 1/3rd would likely turn into a booking.  i like those odds at this stage.

@Lilian20

Hey Li, sorry for not responding before this to either this, or you DM but I cannot begin to tell you what is going on in my life. I am far busier than I have ever been throughout my life!!

As to your request re giving each others listings a push along. I will be prepared to post a reference as a fellow Airbnb host and in those terms on your page because you come across as a no nonsense decent ethical person to deal with.

As to mine listing....I really do not want any more promotion! I am as busy as I want to be....I can handle the volume of guests I have been having and enjoy doing it, but any more and it will become a chore.

April's calendar is typical of what I have had since opening up my listing again last October....

Bookings for April.png

As well as this I have had two other hostings that did not involve Airbnb, but this is how good Airbnb have been to me and this is the limit of what I feel comfortable with. I need that few days every now and then to catch my breath and spend the time I need to spend keeping it fun. I have hosted 47 Airbnb guests in 6 months for 42 reviews, so Li, I will promote you but I don't need the favour returned....I am grateful for the offer....but not the extra workload.

Cheers.....Rob

Hi @Robin4 good to hear from you again and thanks for your reply.

We're getting busier as well in the south of France.

Funny by the way, my calendar forlast month (April) looks a lot like yours.

Congrats and keep up the good work !
