I promised I would not give a host review but Air BnB won't stop asking me for one.

I promised I would not give a host review but Air BnB won't stop asking me for one.

I recently stayed with a host that had so many 5 star reviews I did not hesitate to make a reservation. However, upon arrival, as soon as we opened the door, a wafting smell of mustiness came out at us. Upon entering the space (a studio in a basement area of a home) we discovered there was only one window that could open. We tried to air out the space, but without success. That night, there was a lot of upstairs noise even up to and after midnight and we did not have a good night's rest at all. I then contacted the host and said we would not be staying the second night and requested a refund for the second night. I promised I would not write a review since she said the noise was an unusual visit from relatives and that  no other guest had ever complained about a smell. I guess my nose is just more sensitive. The smell we concluded must be from the rabbits she keeps as pets and probably were caged in another part of the basement. She did reveal in her posting that she keeps rabbits as pets but never allows them into the guest area. That of course did not prevent the smell from coming into the guest area. She agreed to my request, and we accepted and paid a charge for only one night's stay. Now how can I get Air BnB to stop asking me for a review? I would like to  pretend I was just never there.

Maybe such a agreement could be seen by Airbnb as a violation of Airbnb rules.

"Not leaving a review in exchange for a refund"

So better NOT contact Airbnb to stop the messages !

After 14 days (the review time period)  the sending of messages will stop anyway.

I did not see this as a quid pro quo but more of a shortening of our reservation due to extenuating circumstances. I just couldn’t figure out what type of review I would leave. The noise most likely would not be repeated and my nose is extremely sensitive to smells. I guess I’ll put up with the requests for another few days.

You are under no obligation to leave a review if you do not want to. You can just ignore the messages. They are just automatic prompts/reminders.

Just ignore the messages, I am sure Airbnb doesn't expect you to review them, these are just auto-messages. You were very kind to the host btw.

Even more infuriating is that Airbnb emails the guest with, in my case, in bold letters: “Pat is waiting for your review”.

I am never “waiting for a review”, and Airbnb should cease using this wording. Not only do they not have the right to speak for hosts without permission, but it is actually a lie to announce that they are waiting for a review when they may not be. It’s also misleading the guest, who upon receiving this email, naturally assumes that the host has left a review for them!

@Pat271It is like a child fibbing to another child.

The one that gets me is - "Have you let X guest know what is going on?" or something to that effect. I would love to say - "No I want to keep them in the dark as long as possible for the fun of it".
