My guest burned an appliance, how should I proceed?

We are hosting a young couple that seems a little bit odd with kitchen appliances. They burned one of ours: they poured milk in a water-only kettle, so it got burned and longer works.

 

I told them but they did not seem very interested in taking any action on the accident. What should we do?
