New Ordinace for Las Vegas hosts

New Ordinace for Las Vegas hosts

This only applies to Vegas hosts: Your city councilwoman Lois Tarkanian is at it again. She's proposing new rules for the city AND county to further regulate short term rentals. Among some glaring items: you'd need a $500k liability policy, cant be within 660 feet of another rental and need to apply for a special use permit. This city doesn't know if it wants to be small business friendly or just friendly to the corporations that stuff their pockets.

I'm still trying to find the link online for the ordinance, but will post it once I do.

@Zacharias0

Best of Luck with the new rules Zacharius - and it will be interesting to hear about the changes, and reactions, as I am sure some will transfer over into other areas.

Best Wishes.

Apparently Airbnb is not helping issues regarding this matter.

it used to be that you could easy network with fellow hosts in any city when they had the "Airbnb groups" handle on the website. Then they turned it to "Airbnb community" and everything disappeared.

So the ordinace, which wasn't as hevily talked about in the papers beforehand, was passed by a committe of two people who actually wrote the ordinance. Is that how government works: The minority makes rules for the majority? There was a crowd of 300 people some for it and some against it. Its hard to convince the people who wrote the ordinance otherwise. The ordinance is next up to go in front of the mayor.

The people who were for the ordinance sounded like Chicken Littles afraid of changing times not realizing that we can all co-exist. These were probably the same people against same-sex marriage screaming about the "sanctity of marriage". Many families of America aren't well-traveled or even informed and only see one eventuality in life and thats to work a 9-5, have kids, buy a house and grow old. Others, like myself, see multiple paths to take in life. For us to be such a progressive society we are still far behind when it comes to education, regulations and transportation.

Idea, what if a guest signs a 30 day rental agreement when they check-in and as the same time sign a release of the rental agreement for their checkout date.  After all a lease can be terminated at any time if both parties agree

There is an important meeting coming up that needs your support regarding the new ordinance.

This is an email from Vegas VRA who is heading up our side of the battle.

Vegas VRA Owners and Managers:

It’s crunch time!!!  We have a lot of new Owners and Managers joining us and we need to go over our presentation for June 21st, the day of the City Council Vote.  It is very important that everyone attend at least ONE of the next two meetings.  We are sharing our strategy with you and anyone who wants to speak and share their story will be able to at the VOTE meeting.  Please make sure you are lining up your family and friends and contractors to come to the meeting on June 21st.  We will continue to email details, but our important information will be discussed at the meetings.

This VOTE is our next biggest challenge.  We need 1,000 people.  Like we have discussed before, this will also send a message to the County, the City of North Las Vegas and Henderson that we are coming and we mean business.  I don’t believe that with the Raiders and everything else the LVCVA (Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority)  attracts to our town, that they can continue to ignore short term rentals.

Well they voted this piece of crap in today, very disappointed. Really could have used a PR person or campaign from AIRBNB to push back on all the negative media about "party homes" here.  It was a 3-4 vote, just one council person could have pushed us over the edge.  Hope your listening AIRBNB.
