Renter requests room for other people with mismatching name

I'll use fake names for privacy reasons.

Albert is the name of the profile that requested my room to rent.

The author of the message claims to be Bethany.

Bethany wants her friends, Charlie and Dawn, to rent our room.

There is no verified government ID, though the email and phone numbers have been provided and verified by Airbnb.

This seems like a scam to me, though I'm not sure.

What do you think? What have you experienced with this sort of thing?

Tell Bethany that it would be the best if Charly (or Dawn) makes his own profile on Airbnb and then book for themselves.

It may not be a scam, however I would feel uncomfortable having other stay, rather than the person making the booking. Just decline if you feel that way too...

This is why hosts need to ASK MORE QUESTIONS.  Ask Bethany why her profile name is under Albert.  Ask her her relation to "Albert."  Let her know Airbnb does not allow third-party bookings and it would probably be better for one of her friends to make their own reservation under their own profile.  Ask what the group is coming to your area for, etc.  The more questions you ask, you'll be better able to flesh out this person's real intentions.
