This month 2 reservations have been cancelled by Airbnb the day of arrival, a couple of hours before the check-in time.
For the 1st one I was notified by e-mail only, not in my Airbnb Inbox and I thought it was a scam. I called Airbnbn and they confirmed that it was shady and they decided to cancel it. They couldn't tell me the reason but they said that I should rush to the house and update the House codes
The second time, the reservation was made several days prior the check in date, and the day of the reservation, the guest called me to tell me their account was cancelled by Airbnb. I checked my reservations and it still appeared as a confirmed reservation!!
I was notified by the guest and Airbnb didn't move a finger to notify me!!
How can they cancel a guests account and not let the host know that the reservation was shady and not to provide the self check-in instructions???
@Lucy99 for the first situation I think it is great that they were able to cancel it, no matter how last-minute. It sounds like you avoided The huge problem!
The second situation is strange. How and why did the guest contact you? If the account was canceled, they should not of been able to have access to you through Airbnb. Did you refund the guest? Did Airbnb do it?
It’s fine that they cancelled but why not send an airbnb message to make sure I see it before I send the guest the check in instructions?
I saw the email by accident and i thought it was a scam because nothing showed on the airbnb inbox and the reservations were still showing as “confirmed”
Because it's not an actual person canceling the reservation; it's an automated e-mail when a robot finds something to question. I've read about guests having their stay canceled by Airbnb while they were sitting in their host's living room having tea.
Hi Lucy, did this guest advise you via your private phone number, or through the Airbnb message stream?
If it was via your private phone, the guest may have made a mistake, and Airbnb have not cancelled their account!
I have had just recently a guest cancel 24 hours before they were to arrive and within 5 minutes I received a confirming cancellation sms and email from Airbnb and my calendar was immediately opened again.
I would check with Airbnb on this....they may still consider they have an active booking here!
Cheers.....Rob
I agree with @Inna5 it is good that they canceled because something was not right. That makes me feel safer.
The other situation may have been an oversight.
You should keep a close watch on your calendar daily. You probably do this already anyway.
