I contacted AirBNB about the same thing. This is a terrible feature and has me very close to stop hosting. AirBNB initially encouraged converstations and to create community and now all they want is instant response and more money. This is new system, I questioned AirBNB about on twitter and they were very dodgy. I met in person with an AirBNB rep who suggested I snooze my listing when I'm too busy to get to it .That's crazy - then my listing is down? I work hard all day and have hectic days where I can't just pull off to take care of AirBNB immediately. This system puts SO MUCH PRESSURE on hosts.
I'm a Superhost and now I'm put into the situation of responding Accept or Decline within 24hrs. I have now been put into the position of automatically declining people and explaing that AirBNB forces me to do this while I continue convesation. I feel like I can't win because, if I want to continue the convesation I have to decline - which AirBNB penalizes you for (which affects your listing) and then I look like a bad guy because I declined someone. As a traveler, if someone declined me, I would look for another place right away. It deosn't feel good to be declined.
I am one person with two listings. It's already difficult to manage this without the additional pressure. Sometimes you need to find out more information from the guest and the guest isn't always quick to reply. For example, I'm traveling right now and got a new request. The guy wants to stay longer than listed on my calendar. As a Superhost, I'm the kind of guy who will figure that out for my guest. So now, while I'm traveling I have to schedule a cleaner and figure out the schedule. AirBNB doesn't give me enought time anymore so now I have to decline the guy!
AirBNB please change this. Give us the option to extend the conversation at least 72hrs. Something. Don't penalize us fro declines. For a community built on trust and safety, I am really start to doubt you. Time for VBROand HomeAway!
