Reviewing guests who don't clean up after (not included) breakfast

Hello everyone.

I rent a simple room, with no hotel-like services.

I hosted a guest (also a host on Airbnb) who apparenlty didn't read my listing and thought it was a B&B, asking me the breakfast hours.

I explained the nature of my listing and added that I offer a light, prepacked breakfast anyway, but I don't want it to be advertised (as I want it to be “gift”, not something I have to give everytime).

Every day he consumed the breakfast without cleaning up after himself and every time I found the gas stove in clear need to be cleaned.

It is the first time a guest treats my house like a professional B&B (and I don't even run a “normal” B&B).

Would it be fair to put 3 stars in Cleanliness and Respect of the house rules?

Thank you.

Normally I might say yes, but your frustration isn’t matched by your house rules.

- I recommend that you add something in the house rules for future guests, as currently, good manners is merely an expectation, not a requirement.

This current guest has poor manners, but is not breaking any rules.... they appear arrogant, and that’s a different matter! You could mark them down on there inability to cope in a shared environment. Better suited to a hotel?

@Erica141, I could be mistaken, but I could not see anything in your listing that states guests must clean up after themselves.

You do mention to take care of the furniture and leave things as you find them; but you need to add some kitchen rules for cleaning. As this homestay is a shared space, it is expected that you clean and tidy up after yourself at all times.

(The use of the kitchen facilities for meal preparation is limited, please see the descriptor.)

You are right. Thank you very much for your advice.

Hope it helps! 😊
