Rhode Island 5505 bill

Does anyone understand what the vote of the rental property 5505 bill means for us as Rhode Island hosts?

do we now need to register our property with the state and will the property be inspected to comply with building regulations. there has been lots of scare mongering on other platforms about this eg installing compulsory fire sprinklers

Yes exactly. Typical Rhode Island, seems like they are botching the roll out.  As of last summer, the Dept Of Business Regulation’s was highly concerned about the efficacy and possibility of rolling out such a system https://www.rilegislature.gov/Special/comdoc/House%20Corporations/06-28-2021--H5505--%20DBR.pdf I am trying to do research now, given that the deadline is apparently June 1 of this year, with large fines to take place of registration does not happen

They haven’t figured it

out yet, so may be a few more

months….  https://www.rirealtors.org/news/2022/01/20/news/new-registration-requirement-for-short-term-rentals/...

Hello,

Has anyone figured out what to do regarding this? I applied online for a retail sales permit through the Division of Taxation. There's a $10 fee, and I received a permit in the mail. It also included tax remittance forms.

I am totally confused about how this permit that I applied for is going to mesh with the tax payments that Airbnb already collects and submits on my behalf. I have reached out to Airbnb support, and after getting no help on the first 3 tries I have finally been referred to the tax department and am waiting for their response.

Has anyone else figured it out?

Thanks in advance.
