Service Fees and Occupancy Taxes...

Hi all. We are fairly new to the Hosting World. Loving it! We have questions regarding what other hosts have done or will be doing to compensate for the taxes being taken out. AirBnB suggests that we send a message or ask the Guests in person to pay. Also, when we first signed up, we thought we remembered seeing a section where we could add an additional "service fee", but neither of us can find it now. Anyone else experience this? If so, can you tell us where to find it or if it is an option any more.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions!

@Jace1,   For LA, Air BNB collects the occupancy taxes.  Please see the article per link:  https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/653/in-what-areas-is-occupancy-tax-collection-and-remittance-by-...

It is important for all hosts to be aware of all the regulations that might affect their  business.  Go to the website of the City of Los Angeles and search under short term occupancy. Being unaware can cost financially  and may have long term negative repercussions.

Good Luck!!

Hi Linda,

Thank you so much for your reply. I will check out the link. We want to make sure we know everything we need to know.

In gratitude.

I wrote Airbnb that I do not want them to take any kind of fees or tax out of my fees, and they are ignoring my wishes.  Just one more reason for me to do more private rentals than to deal with Airbnb.  They don't give hints or service which benefit the host, they just take.

@Caroline140, Unfortunately taxes and fees are not optional. 🙂 This page explains what is required in Boulder, however there is a typo on the AirBnB page (https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/909/boulder--co) saying that the taxes are for Denver (which obvously is a different place than Boulder). The linked page (https://bouldercolorado.gov/finance/tax-rates-3) does explain that the total City, State County and other taxes and fees in Boulder is 12.485% Of course AIrBnB charges fees for their services in addition to the taxes collected and remited.

If you feel that AirBnB "(doesn't) don't give hints or service which benefit the host, they just take." I would strongly suggest that you delete your listing. I disagree with your statement and feel that the advertsing and payment collection services that AirBnB provides more then pays for the listing fees that they charge.

I have noticed while checking for accommodation in LA on air bnb that some listing do not ask for occupen y taxes. They only mention service fees whereas some mention both?

 Can someone enlighten me please.
