Should we as hosts have a signboard outside the home?

I do not have any signboard suggesting the name of my property, or anything to indicate that my house is open for guests because (a) I don't have a fancy name and (b) I also find it quite commercial to do so. I only rely on AirBnB online for bookings. But a few family members suggested that I should perhaps hang a board outside that could increase visibility and lead to more bookings other than from just AirBnB. I guess this question could be a little outside the AirBnB community, but just wanted to know what your opinions are on this? Do you think having a board would really make a difference?

@Anjalina0  Personally I would think this may cause a security issue and would not do it. Advertising on AirBnB is one thing, physically telling anyone who walks by I don't think is a good idea unless your an actual B&B listing.

@Anjalina0 I wouldn't do it. I don't want random people ringing my doorbell asking for accomodation and I don't need everyone that passes knowing I rent apartments.

In Croatia it is mandatory. We have to have 2 tipical signs for each unit - 1 on the building's facade and 1 at the entrance door of the apartment.  There are just few licenced firms producing standardized signs  for the whole of Croatia. Do I have to mention that they cost more than they are worth? 50 € per piece. We needed 4 of them - 2 for the apartment and 2 for studio.

It is hard to do any business in Croatia, waaay to much bureaucracy and regulations 😞

I live one block from a beach resort /ocean view restaurant and it is a popular destination. There is lots of foot traffic as well. I have a sign board out but I placed it on a fence that doesn't make it obvious that the rental is in fact attached to my house. It works well for me as my property is elevated above street level so you really can't tell it is my property - It could be any of the vacation rentals in my area (that's all there are here - vacation rentals - except for me, I live here full time).

Thanks everyone for your views. I think I'm going to give it some time with the board until the season next year. Cheers

I have one of these vinyl decals on the front glass door window. It doesn't draw attention or help with exposure but it definitely helps guide the way for confused guests at check-in.

@Emilia42 Thanks! That looks like one good idea because I do struggle giving directions to my house to guests. I remember once, one of them had asked over the phone what the name of my property was, when in fact there is no real name. It is just the house I live in! Thanks.

Personally for me it’s a no no having a sign outside my home as I don’t want random guests appearing on my doorstep.
