The aim of this new law is to limit the number of days, guests and income for South African Airbnb hosts.
The reason they say is that Airbnb is destroying Tourism, which is ridiculous as the people using Airbnb are tourists.
The reality is that "overpriced" hotels are whining over their losses, so how better to remedy that than by closing down small Airbnb businesses.
The group taking up the battle against thenew law is SAKELIGA. They have a page on the interweb open for comments.
There is a comment period which ends around end May...I have not been able to ascertain the exact date.
Please get involved if you can and forward to as many people as possible.
Many thanks.
