Super Host steps to supporting guests who endured a flood in the suite due to weather

Hello Community,

We've been hosting for about a year in a suite in our home that we rent (with permission of the homeowner.)

Yesterday we experienced extreme rain and the foyer and bathroom of our AirBNB suite flooded. I was home at the time and promptly dealt with the situation. None of our guests possesions were damaged and they haven't asked to be moved.

Our landlords insurance company has sent someone to begin clean up while our guest continues their stay in the suite.

We really love the being a part of the AirBNB community and want to continue on our path of being Super Hosts. What steps would you recommend we take to ensure our guests experience is a positive as possible considering the situation?

Communication & Graciousness - two key components of being a Superhost and having satisfied guests.

Make sure your guests hear from you, several times, that you really appreciate their tolerance during the bathroom issues and clearup. Make sure you ask them if there is anything else they need to make their stay an even better one.

Write them a note and offer some compensation - like a discount on their stay, a bottle of good wine, a basket of fruit or even a gift card for a local restaurant, store or tourist attraction. Think of what you would expect if it was you and your family at a hotel and you experienced a breakdown of an essential amenity, and also think of what a great host would do to provide great customer service - and what your 5 star reviews are worth to you.

I am sure you will do a great job - and that your guest will appreciate you for it!

PS - and may I add here, even though this was not your post - please protect yourself and your Airbnb listing & earnings - make sure you have your landlord's WRITTEN permission to list your suite - AND check with your landlord that his/her home insurance covers this and the guest stays. You would not want to be personally liable should the rare situation occur of a serious problem such as major damage/injury/theft as a result of a guest stay. Apologies if you have already got this covered - just mentioned it here for other readers and to be supportive and positive! 🙂

Thanks the great suggestions Rachael!
