That Airbnb 'ping': I got a booking!

My first booking (in an otherwise empty calendar) just came through. A light at the end of a very dark tunnel? Who knows. But it's certainly lifted my spirits. Just not sure where to put my desk/screens/office-y stuff now that I'm working from home full-time.

Glad to hear your update @Jessica-and-Henry0

So what are Henry's new hobbies - anything interesting 🙂

I have had three bookings - one through Airbnb for July, but views are down massively as Airbnb is it's wisdom are prioritising views for those with whole listing in our area because they are the only ones able to accept booking prior to 4 July.

Like @Gordon0  I can provide private bathroom access for my guests. I am also leaving a day between bookings to enable my cleaners to do special COVID cleans. @Gordon0  be great to hear back in terms of any additional cleaning you are doing post Covid.

I have included a check list for my cleaners and providing a washable laundry bag or my guests to use to strip bedding and put in towels post their stay. I also have santiser in guest rooms, kitchen and bathrooms etc.

I'm pretty much of a clean freak as it is, @Helen3, but there's obviously more to do in these circumstances. I too have put sanitisers (personal ones, for guests to keep) in the room and a couple of face coverings (you shouldn't use London transport services without them) to make sure they're above board from the get-go.

It's the things like door handles/remote controls that I don't want to forget. I'll share more as I remember/stumble across stuff.

And I have another booking too. Although this time last year it was back-to-back bookings for the next few months. Hey ho.

@Gordon0 Glad to see you are opening for business again. The sooner people get back to the new normal the better. Sadly Covid may continue to kill post the pandemic due to the poverty and mental illness it has caused. I think the UK government did a very good job of getting people to stay home - they now need to do a similarly good job of getting them back to work.

@Gordon0 , honestly, the ding ding that I get when customers book always makes me smile and I have been smiling much more lately!  Welcome back to the hosting world, Gordon.  John

@Gordon0That's brilliant news.

We all need to chill out and not live in fear bc of the horrible scaremongering that we have all been through.

We all die of one thing or another and shouldn't be made to be afraid of people who have pneumonia type of illnesses which is one of the original symptoms of original cases.

 It's unfortunate in highly populated countries where perhaps you don't have the close knit communities us smaller countries have where we can access media and others on a friendly basis to ensure balanced responsible reporting.

I see in the latest Imperial College London UK Teamwork research paper dated 8 June that the death rate is subject to accuracy - so many people have been classified & ticked off as having Covid when they have in fact had normal reactions to environmental changes.  We know people who have been though the system who were told they had Covid when it was ordinary travel related runny nose and been skiing in cold!

Here in NZ 50,000 people in Auckland who were tested came back with negative results. ✔✔✔✔✔✔

🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞 The sun will rise another day. Be strong & positive.

No one should  let food go to waste.

I caught up with one of my guests before her return overseas and was left with her leftovers including that of a shared meal at a local cheese factory...YUM in one's tum.

Can't stand food waste.

@Jessica-and-Henry0we all go through that, remember charity shops..

@Helen350  Re Bournmouth beach, isn't that an old stock photo the media used?

Vitamin D and sunshine are the best cure to keep healthy and salt water swimming  cleanses wounds...

 It's a shame some scientists / microbiologists don't get outside of their walls  more.

@Helen427 Gosh! - So there weren't 500,000 there last week?

Conspiracies, conspiracies.........

@Helen350

Someone can't calculate accurately.

Media need to up there game.

2640 people average width 2 feet which includes 1 foot for a person's size and 1 foot between people..Bournmouth beach is 7 miles that's questionable if it "could" or may be

500,000 = half a million..., standing, sitting, sleeping or swimming unless they are on top of each other reaching for the skies and sun  😉

Seriously?

 It's appalling if public toilets were not open and regularly cleaned.

Hope you still have open showers at the beach and changing rooms/ toilets that have no door to push open like they built in the early to mid 1900's when materials were scarce and plaster/ smooth concrete/ bricks were used - more hygienic and easier to disinfect.

I thought it was Brighton that got ram packed last week, but seems to be up and down. I do love Bournemouth but not enough to break lockdown! @Helen427 @Helen350

There's open showers but changing rooms have to be prebooked (at least that's how it was last time I was down there.) Seeing as everything's rightly closed off....

Any photos of Brighton Beach, UK @Stephanie ?

We have a Brighton Beach in the South Island of New Zealand.

I wonder if they are both named after the same family.

What "lockdown" @Stephanie ?

 I've yet to read or see the word "lockdown" in any of the Coronavirus Acts world wide...

The information we have been subjected to worldwide has been "Guidelines" and it's most unfortunate those that make Laws in Parliament worldwide somehow over looked applying common laws already enacted under Law!!

I've learnt a lot about laws over the years and a very respected now Justice in our Court System in New Zealand once told me "There are plenty of holes in the Treaty of Waitangi" and a law we have that he questioned "Since when have we had no xyz law?" in a "private conversation" and wiped the grin off his face!!

Meanwhile Elizabeth knows where we have been and what adventures we have been on during this time 🤗 and support we have been giving to others in need.

I think the way academics in the Science field and way universities operate will change for the better as a result of Coronavirus, as they will have to think seriously about adhering to existing laws that they appear to be ignorant of.

I mean lockdown for Britain - that is how our government named it since kick off in March, including how the population needed to adapt to minimise the spread of the pandemic.

Canary Islands, Spain

Here is Spain and specifically the Canary Islands.  We did have an actual - lockdown.  Everyone suffered a minimum of 2 months house arrest.  For the first 3 weeks there was a continuous police and military patrol presence including blowhorn warnings and fines etc being issued.  This was followed by another 3 weeks of spotaneous hand clapping each evening, 1900, out home windows / terraces for first responders.  First responders who in kind paraded through the streets honking horns.  Children now - after 100 days - finally can play on the park.  Casinos opened before children's parks.  Lockdown had very serious literal conotations here.  A few positive, homeless residents were housed, fed, provided support and medical temporarily and at least the conversation in print and digital media is more focused on healthcare and human inclusion then the us / them terrorism of the last few decades.  This is a welcome shift in conversation.  We are very happy Spain has finally lifted the travel restrictions and have already hosted a number of new guests who reside in Europe.  We look forward as well to seeing the return of International visitors post 01 July date set by Spain.  And of course to here the message ping of new guests booking.  🙂

 @Helen427 Brighton, New Zealand was named after the Brighton in England, byHugh Williams, an early resident.

@Helen427 Hey Helen

It might be, but my son lives there by the beach. He said it was insane. He saw a guy having a fight with a dog...... 🙄

Its a real party town and was a road block all the way along that part of the coast.
