Things guests asked for that surprised you

The full-length mirror thread got me thinking. What have guests commented on or asked for that surprised you? In our case guests have asked for the following that we didn't have/would not have thought to supply/don't use ourselves:

1. glue for crafting

2. a lemon zester

3. a pizza cutter (we have one now, but figured the knives we have work just as well)

4. a pot filler over the stove (WAY too expensive at the moment!)

5. a blender or food processor

6. A meat thermometer (we are vegetarians so this one really passed us by.)

Because we use our space as a weekend house its fully stocked with a lot of things. But some things we would have not thought of.  What have your guests asked for that you just would not have thought of or were surprised by?

I'm sorry, Branston pickles just made me laugh out loud!  Hahaha who asks their host for pickles?  That's hilarious!

Ooo I am a fan of Worcestershire sauce @Amanda660 ! 🙂 I wouldn't really expect it to be in an Airbnb I was staying in though.

1. A sewing kit.

3. Meat hammer

4.Garlic press

5.Hair Straightener

6. Code for the TV porn channels

...

@Dimitar27 You can send the ones who want a sewing kit my way 🙂 I have a whole upholstery shop in the back corner of my property. Every color of thread they might need, needles, pins, scissors, zippers, buttons.

After this strange request, I bought one small sewing kit. "Travel sewing pack" or something like this. And for my surprise, it is very frequently used.

nice idea.

My God I am beginning to think that I"ve had really awesome guests. I've never been asked for anything other than "where can I hang this wet towel" as the first words of greeting from an arriving guest.

I consider my house very well stocked, but I don't have half of this stuff. I can't imagine the kind of person that thinks

"the stay was almost perfect. If ONLY there'd been a meat thermometer"

Some of these things are verging on the ridiculous IMO.

Makes me hark back to my post in August last year when I was put up at a corporate 4 star hotel. Had a room the  size of a shoebox - albiet very nicely furnished - $150 night for 7 nights -  and they couldn't see their way clear to finding me any more than the 3 coathangers provided. They did provide accurate directions for walking into town so I could buy some though....

The weirdest thing someone asked me is to make them empanadas (they are small pie like pastry filled with any filling- mine are with melted mozzarella cheese). He knew I cooked m and wanted to try his luck. If he asked kindly would have considered it, he more demanded this at the time ... I don’t reward entitled behaviour! 🤔

One asked me to  them on my girls night out- I said « no » and he was not happy! 😂

I've been lucky, I haven't had many odd requests but I do think I keep my condo stocked more than most.  One guest did ask me where the 'robes and slippers' were, I guess they thought it was the Playboy Mansion.

I had a lot of wild asks, always for people over 50.
Like if I could put a hanger near the door, or that they need me to move the furniture so it´s more efficient for them. I always get re arrenge cabinets when i host people over 50 ( i Know is a generalization) I think is like they want to live like their houses.

Families always ask me for microwave. and i know is useful but here is very expensive and i dont see how that would change my price, is just not a good investment for me.
on the other hand i was asked a fondue pot I bought it cause i found a very good offer, and thoght, well if they wanted i can buy it and if no one uses it i can keep it for myself. and that thou very strange is very much apreciated with every guest, i live in a place where is always cold.in winter it gets dark very early, so cooking is something that most of my guest does a lot,
so that time the wild ask was very helpful. I do think that that gesture moves up my needle

I never thought to get an electric kettle for my places until folks from the UK started to frequent my units.

I'm not a tea drinker so I thought the stovetop tea kettle was good enough.  Boy was I wrong, they're so convenient I purchased one for myself.

1. Music speakers

2. Umbrellas

@Ann783 did you provide the speaker? I do not have one on purpose. Even when guests leave them behind and do not want them anymore, I just donate them. I do not want to encourage loud music

@Inna22  First, I did a quick search of amenities in listings similar to mine.  Seemed like most had Sonos system. I decided to provide a Bose bluetooth speaker. I have the housekeeper check after each stay to confirm it is there. It provides enough sound for the cottage but not enough to disturb neighbors.
