Update of calendar after cancellation

I had to cancel a booking but the calendar is still showing it is booked. It won’t allow me to unblock the calendar.

@Kim108 That is what Airbnb do when you cancel a booking. There are quite severe penalties for cancelling - you would probably be advised to have a read before hosting further. Cancelling is something you should never do as a host. All you can do now is to contact Airbnb and see if you can plead with them to open up the dates for you.

Here are the penalties for a host who cancels a confirmed guest reservation.....

https://www.airbnb.ca/help/article/990/i-m-a-host--what-penalties-apply-if-i-need-to-cancel-a-reserv....

You will also find that, apart from the blocked calendar, that Superhost status of yours will disappear in the next assesment coming up in a few days.

Kim, you have been hosting for long enough to know the rules, and although I do have a lot of sympathy for new hosts who get caught within the first half a dozen hostings being unaware of all that is required, but when someone has hosted close to 30 guests who have left a review, been hosting for a year or more and the host has been awarded superhost status, my sympathy for not knowing the rules is somewhat limited.

I guess what makes me cross about this post is, it appears you did not cancel because of something that is precluding you from hosting, because you want to unblock your calendar to have 'another nibble at the yeast bun'....pursue another reservation.

Hosting has to be framed around a set of rules and Kim it is up to all of us to make sure we know what we are doing.....it is a business, unforseen circumstances do arise but it is up to the host to know how to handle those situations without just hitting the cancel button.

I would probably lay a bet that you do not have a contact phone number handy for Airbnb support to handle situations you are not sure of!

Well, that Sydney number is 02 85203333. You can call CS and give an argument as to why you should not be penalised and they may, if they find merit in your argument, release you from penalty on this occasion.

But, with your experience, you may find it a long shot Kim....good luck anyway.

Cheers......Rob

And Mmm, thanks Rob for your sarcastic comments. And for your information, I am not wanting two bites at the cherry as you say. The unit was simultaneously booked for the same dates bar 1 day within 10 minutes through another source. My fault I guess for not having the calendars synced.

I simply want the calendar to be accurate and show the correct name. I did contact the person that booked the unit directly to apologise, and yes, I did phone Airbnb (twice) this morning, of which I actually did know the number of and still waiting for a supervisor to return my call. I just thought I would ask the community the question, as Airbnb suggests you do. I didn’t think it was such a big deal. I have never cancelled a booking in 5 and a half years, so no, I did not realise the ramifications of doing so.  I will, therefore, leave my fate to Airbnb to decide the appropriate course of action.

Sorry I should not have taken the crash on you like that Kim, of course there are always reasons.

One trick you may or may not be aware of, although you are showing a cancellation in your reviews you may still have Superhost benefits at this stage!

When you call that Sydney number make sure you do it from your Airbnb registered phone....the one they send your alerts to. If you do, as soon as you dial, the system compares the number you are dailing from with your Airbnb number and if the two match an electronic voice will say "Welcome Superhost, your call will be answered shortly" and you will be put through to the first available CS person in the world. It may be San Francisco, Manilla, Dublin and you will be talking with someone, generally within a minute, and when they answer your call your profile will already be up on their screen.....it is that quick!

If you use another phone to make that call you will simply go into the phone queue along with everyone else.

Cheers.....Rob
