Very Nice Guest Who Crooked The System

Hi

We had a high discount set for 28 days or longer.

The guest booked 25 days orginally.

He must have realised 28 days will give him a great savings.

And he booked for 28 nights.

Three nights into his stay he comes back and says he need to leave earlier.

He tells me now; this honest guy:

Hi Johan - we fly out on the 28th dec, one of Airbnb’s quirks is that a 30day stay is often cheaper than a 25 day stay.

I suppose if they can abuse the system they will.

He would have paid 33% more for the shorter stay.

I just send him an aleration keeping the 28 stay price as he paid.

At least I can open these dates as they are over peak season.

What happens when a guest book for 20 days or longer to get a discount and then change it afterwards?

Stuff up. The easy solution is not to use discounts if abuse continue.

This could happen with, for example, a 14 day booking that is cheaper than ten nights. The guy books for 14 but only stay for 10.

Not sure how to handle this? Make the discount less?

I don't think your guest is trying to scam you, on the contrary I think he has been very honest in his reasoning.

A 33% price difference is a huge difference to pay for 25 days vs. 28 days, I can imagine many people would prefer to book this way and just forfit the extra days.

You should probably review your pricing, and lower the monthly discount to even things out.
