Hi Lizzie, and all the other fantastic SuperHosts! We have been hosting 7 plus years in our Historic Home, The Slater House PDX, where we slept next door to guests. It was fantastic, but aging knees and too much garden work necessitated a downsize.
Now we have a converted garage in our backyard, called an ADU (Alternate Dwelling Unit) away from downtown Portland. And are learning how to host a brand new way with longer stays and Travel Nurses.
I do not mean to offend, but I must ask this question: I see all the articles from Deb and Dave and I clicked on a few, I did not see publishing dates on these articles. I wonder how up to date they are? As the policies, procedures, and website is constantly changing.
I also mentor new hosts and one of the biggest pieces of advice I would offer is to call Airbnb and get a representative you can work with, and if they do not give you a satisfactory answer or resolution to your problem, hang up, call back and ask for a case manager with politeness and gratitude. My grandma said: You get more bees with honey, than with vinegar.
Happy New Year!
