What sort of review do I leave when guests leave a large dog poo in one of the bedrooms?

Guests arrived, checked out on time. When we got in to do the turnaround it was very very hot! Middle of summer and the heaters had been cranked up and the stove on. Ok, I guess some people like it hot. I started on the kitchen and found that the oven seal had melted! What had they been doing with the over? Fortunately ours is the same one so I was able to replace quickly. Anyway, the usual bits and pieces but then when my partner went into the wee bedroom he found a large dog poo in the corner. He picked it up with kitchen roll, almost vomiting at the stench. I stayed back, almost vomiting at his vomiting. It was large! Ok, so thats dealt with. Then we went to change the bottom bunk as it was a couple with a kid so the kid must've been in that bedroom. Although it looked like a two seater van so maybe they didn't bring the kid. Anyway the duvet and the pillow were very wet around the edges.

I think there was some sort of accident and they've tried to wash and dry the bedding but not quite succeeded. Fortunately I have spare duvets and pillows.

Now, I don't like knocking stars off. And they did leave nice review in the guest book Lol. BUT a DOG POO! In the bedroom!! And what sort of accident occurred on the bed? I would rather know so I know whether to throw out the duvet or wash it again or what.

How many stars would you take off? In which category? Also, what do I say? I wouldn't want them staying again but don't want to be mean. I do charge a £20 fee for dogs but that's to cover the extra cleaning of the dog hairs, sofa covers and so on.

@Sheena13   Did you know that the star ratings are only visible to hosts who activate Instant Book?  Not to the guests, not to anyone else. Therefore, the kind of hosts who are actively screening their guests will never see them. The important thing is the text review.

A fair review consists only of facts, rather than speculation - you don't know the precise cause of the oven seal melting, the origin of the bed moisture, or even the species of the feces (who knows, maybe the guest herself squatted down and left that as some kind of comment on the weather in Glasgow).  The condition these guests left the property in put it in danger of fire, or at the very least of being uninhabitable for your incoming guests; there's not a single host in the world who would want to experience what you did. So in a few short sentences, write an honest account of what you discovered when you entered the property, thumbs-down on "would you recommend this guest," and if as a consequence the guest has trouble booking elsewhere - GOOD.

Thank you. You're right. No host wants to deal with dog poo in the bedroom. ( I have to assume it was a dog haha, I can't bear to think about the alternatives! )

Also, I didn't realize the star ratings were only visible to hosts with instant book on. Thanks for that. It does mean its the text thats important...

@Sheena13  @Anonymous  Andrew is right on perfectly with everything he writes!!! You don't know....maybe the dog slept in the bed - or peed on the duvet, dogs (well, mine) if something is hanging that's an invitation to lift that leg. Maybe the kid left the dump in the corner??? Who knows.

follow Andrews advice - and so sorry you had this one occur. Nightmare for all hosts and their people. peace and happy hosting, Clara

@Sheena13 absolve yourself of any guilt or doubts.... this guest totally deserves a bad review! @Anonymous is totally right

"During middle of summer guest checked out on time leaving both the home's heating system and kitchen oven running full blast. Additionally, our place was not left clean with unfortunate dampness and excrement left behind in the bedroom. We cannot recommend these guests to other hosts"

btw, a CS recently told me that guests are only barred from IB if they have 1* reviews, don't know if that is accurate or not

@Sheena13  Everything that @Anonymous has said is correct as it so often is.  I have never understood why hosts feel that it is "mean" to leave a review which accurately reflects the guests' bad behaviour.  As a community of hosts we are, I thought, supposed to try to help each other weed out bad guests so that other hosts do not suffer in the future.  You most certainly have suffered here and I feel really sorry for you but please don't feel guilty about writing an honest review and leaving 1* in every category so that hopefully these people can never book with Airbnb again.

Your listing looks lovely and I do hope your flag stones didn't get damaged by the crap left on them.

Thank you 🙂 Yes, you're right. I would be mad if I knew this had happened to another host and they had not left any sort of warning.

I hope you took pics to document the state the place was left in!

So I left a review saying, as nicely as possible, that I would not like to host these guests again. It looks like they have just removed their account so the review is not visible. I guess they will just create a new account. Ah well, I did try.
